Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

create-b4-app

Scaffold a B4.run TypeScript application with a supported starter template and the canonical project layout.

Use this when: You are starting a new B4.run application from a supported template.

Install

Requires Node.js 24 or later and npm 11. Run npm create b4-app@latest <directory>; a global installation is not required, and the directory must be new or empty. Options: --template basic|navlog (default basic) and --dist-tag <tag>, the npm dist-tag the generated app's B4.run dependencies resolve (default latest).

Example

Create the default basic starter, a single /hello agent with one typed tool, and run its offline test suite:

npm create b4-app@latest my-agent
cd my-agent
npm install
npm test

For the flight planner, a server and web npm workspace with subagents, memory, planning and a map Workbench, run npm create b4-app@latest my-navlog -- --template navlog. Its live runs need OPENAI_API_KEY in server/.env; npm run dev:server serves the agent on port 3002 and npm run dev:web the Workbench on port 3010.

Runtime and stability

create-b4-app is a Node-only executable. It creates files in the target directory but does not install dependencies or start the generated application for you. The generated app owns its provider credentials; fixture-backed tests do not silently fall through to a live provider.

Related

Related packages are @b4run/cli, which develops and builds the generated app, and @b4run/sdk, which the app's routes and tools import. See the API catalog, Getting Started, testing guide, CLI guide, and create-b4-app changelog.

Maturity and support

B4.run is pre-1.0, and its public surface can change. All publishable B4.run packages release together as a fixed group; review the changelog and upgrading guide before upgrading. For support, use GitHub Discussions; report defects in GitHub Issues.
