Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

create-nestforge

v1.5.0

Published

Interactive CLI to scaffold a NestJS starter project.

Readme

NestForge Starter

create-nestforge scaffolds a production-ready NestJS backend from the command line. Answer a couple of prompts and you get a working application you can build on top of — Express + REST or Express + GraphQL (Apollo), Redis-backed sessions, and no-op persistence so it boots before you've written a line.

Usage

npx create-nestforge@latest

You will be asked for a project name and which variant to scaffold. The project is created in the current directory, named after the project. The CLI copies the template (layering the GraphQL overlay when selected), sets the package name, and creates a .env from the example.

Non-interactive

Pass the same options as flags for automation and CI:

npx create-nestforge@latest --project-name my-app --variant graphql

Available flags:

| Flag | Description | | --- | --- | | --help | Show help message and exit | | --version | Print version and exit | | --project-name | Project name (defaults to an interactive prompt) | | --oauth-providers | Comma-separated provider list: google,github | | --variant | rest or graphql (defaults to an interactive prompt, then rest) | | --target-dir | Override where the project is created (defaults to ./<project-name>) | | --git | Initialize a git repository (default) | | --no-git | Skip git initialization |

Running the generated project

cd my-app
pnpm install
cp .env.example .env
pnpm start:dev

The app runs at http://localhost:3000, with interactive docs at http://localhost:3000/api-docs (Scalar on top of the Swagger/OpenAPI document). Docker users can skip local setup entirely:

docker compose up --build

What you get

  • Express + REST with URI versioning (/api/v1), or Express + GraphQL with an Apollo code-first /graphql endpoint
  • Auth-ready: Passport local + Google OAuth, Redis-backed sessions
  • WebSocket gateway with gated, session-authenticated connections
  • BullMQ background jobs, mailer with Handlebars templates
  • Security baseline: Helmet, CSRF double-submit cookies, global rate limiting
  • Swagger/Scalar docs, Terminus health checks, Winston logging
  • Boots without a database (no-op persistence stub)

Documentation

  • GitHub — source, docs, and the landing site
