Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

create-react-express-auth

A CLI tool to scaffold a production-ready MERN stack application with built-in Authentication (JWT, Roles) and Authorization.

This package helps beginner to intermediate developers simple start a full-stack project without setting up the boilerplate manually.

Installation & Usage

You don't need to install this package globally. Just run:

npx create-react-express-auth <project-name>

Example:

npx create-react-express-auth my-awesome-app

Then follow the on-screen instructions to get started!

What's Included?

Client (React + Vite)

  • AuthContext: Manages user session state globally.
  • Axios: Pre-configured instance with JWT interceptors.
  • Protected Routes: Components to restrict access based on login status and roles.
  • Pages: Login, Register, Dashboard, Admin.

Server (Express)

  • MVC Architecture: Models, Routes, Controllers/Middleware separation.
  • Middleware: verifyToken and authorizeRoles.
  • Database: Mongoose schema with password hashing hooks.
