Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Interactive CLI scaffolding tool for Stackbase (Fastify 5 + Next.js 16 fullstack boilerplate)

create-stackbase

Interactive CLI that scaffolds a new fullstack project from Stackbase — a production-ready Fastify 5 + Next.js 16 / React 19 boilerplate. No install needed, run it with npx.

npx create-stackbase my-app
cd my-app
npm install
npm run dev

An interactive wizard asks what you need, then generates a project containing only the selected pieces — no dead code, no commented-out routes, no stripping things out by hand afterward.

What you get

  • Backend — Fastify 5, TypeScript, Drizzle ORM (or Prisma), Better Auth, Postgres, fully schema-typed routes with auto-generated OpenAPI docs
  • Frontend — Next.js 16 App Router, React 19, TanStack Query, Redux Toolkit, shadcn/ui, Tailwind
  • Auth & roles — Better Auth wired end-to-end, with a customizable role list (not locked to admin/user)
  • Typed API client — backend route schemas generate the frontend's API client automatically; no hand-written fetch calls or duplicated types
  • AI coding assistant rules — optional architecture guardrails generated for Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Antigravity, so agentic tools follow your project's conventions instead of guessing

The wizard

Run npx create-stackbase [project-name] and answer a short set of prompts:

| Prompt | Options | |---|---| | Package manager | pnpm / npm / yarn | | Include backend? | yes / no | | Include frontend? | yes / no | | Auth module | Better Auth (full) / skip | | Roles | free-text comma-separated list + pick the admin role | | State management | Redux Toolkit / skip | | Database | Postgres + Drizzle / Postgres + Prisma / skip | | AI coding tools | Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Antigravity (any combination) | | Git init | yes / no | | Install dependencies now | yes / no |

At least one of backend/frontend is required. Everything else is optional and shapes exactly what gets copied into your new project.

Usage

# scaffold into ./my-app, name prompted if omitted
npx create-stackbase my-app

# or via npm's create shorthand
npm create stackbase@latest my-app
