Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

create-tinygres

Scaffold a small TypeScript and Vite application around the standalone TinyGres browser database:

npm create tinygres@latest

The generated app uses TinyGres's default dedicated module Worker and precompiled Rust/WASM engine. It creates a typed relational schema with raw SQL, writes data with atomic statements and a callback transaction, and renders a parameterized multi-table query plus an aggregate. Table subscriptions keep the UI current after each commit.

The only product choice is storage:

  • OPFS is recommended and selected by default. It persists the page-native database across reloads.
  • Memory starts from a blank database on every page load, so the demo bootstraps its schema and sample rows again.

For agents and CI, every option can be supplied non-interactively:

npm create tinygres@latest -- --non-interactive \
  --projectName my-tinygres-app \
  --storage opfs \
  --installAndRun false

Use --list-options for the machine-readable option catalog or --help for usage. The generated project runs entirely locally, with no network credentials or remote service dependency.

This repository is a private development package. npm run build assembles the publishable create-tinygres package under dist/.

Development

npm run typecheck # generator and test TypeScript
npm test # CLI, template, and package-boundary tests
npm run test:generated # generated memory and OPFS apps
npm run test:e2e # real Chromium Worker/WASM behavior

Run the local generator from this repository's parent directory with:

npm --prefix create-tinygres run local

This builds only the generator. The generated app installs the published TinyGres package, including its precompiled WASM, so Rust is not required. Any create-tinygres CLI options can be appended after --.

To test unpublished changes from a neighboring TinyGres source repository, use the explicitly separate sibling-source command:

npm --prefix create-tinygres run local:source

That command builds and packs the sibling TinyGres repository before starting the generator, so it does require the TinyGres Rust toolchain.
