Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

curious-agent

v1.0.0

Published

Curious - the curiosity agent: proactively seeks information it doesn't have. Scans for knowledge gaps, seeks answers, learns facts.

Curious — the curiosity agent

Curious doesn't wait to be asked. It scans its environment for knowledge gaps — missing docs, missing tests, unfamiliar files, undocumented modules — and seeks the information proactively. Unlike contextink (which acquires context when asked), curious finds gaps on its own and goes and gets the answer.

The word is coined: curious — the rung where the agent stops waiting and starts seeking.

        .----.
       /  _   \
       |=[_]==|
  (`.--.____.---.'\
   `-./'\\_.'
      |  /.  .||
       \:-: .'
  LGB `-' (archive piece, credited, until the portrait lands)

What it does

| You say | Curious does | |---|---| | scan [path] | scans a repo for knowledge gaps (missing docs, tests, unfamiliar files, undocumented modules) | | gaps | lists detected gaps ranked by priority | | seek <target> | seeks info about a target (reads the file, extracts the fact) | | learn <fact> | records a learned fact | | status | shows what's known vs unknown | | ask tides: what are the tides? | forwards to a sibling over ACP, cited (and learns from the answer) |

Rules: gaps are detected by rules (missing README, no tests, unfamiliar extensions, no docstrings, too many deps). Seeking reads the file and extracts the first meaningful fact. Nothing is invented.

Run it

npm i -g curious-agent     # or: npx curious-agent  (packaged agent; needs python3)
curious-agent              # launches agents/curious/agent.py

Or from source:

git clone https://github.com/mrfentmen/curious && cd curious
python3 agents/curious/agent.py

For forwarded questions, point it at a checkout of the answerer repo:

AWESOME_SERVERS_HOME=/path/to/awesome-servers curious-agent

Run the tests (25 of them, offline, including real child-process federation):

python3 agents/curious/tests/test_agent.py

The honest parts

  • Gaps are detected by rules, not by model opinion. A gap that can't be filled honestly is reported, not faked.
  • Vendored lockwork is credited line by line: kit/ from the ACP kit; federation.py from the polymath — vendored on 2026-10-18, kept standalone on purpose.

Built on top of: mrfentmen/awesome-servers (the watcher runtime, the feeds) and mrfentmen/superagents (the polymath and the sentry, the first two agents this one borrows transport and lockwork from) and mrfentmen/fedora-hat and mrfentmen/instink and mrfentmen/contextink and mrfentmen/rewind and mrfentmen/scopink.
