Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Cuttie

Photo cropper in JS with quick settings. You can embed it into any of your projects.

Documentation 📖

First you need to install and create empty Cuttie 💿

npm install cuttie
const cuttie = new Cuttie();

The next step is to initialize Cuttie with params 🖥️

parent - accepts the parent element in which the cropping window will be embedded

params - accepts insertion and viewport parameters

url - image url

cuttie.initCanvas(
  parent,
  params,
  url
);

Now about params 🔎

bounds - optional; Set the size of the editing window. If the field is missing it will adjust to the size of the parent.

viewport - required; Set the initial dimensions of the cropping window. isChanged and aspect-ratio are optional fields. If you specify aspect-ration, then the height of the viewport will not be taken into account, it will be calculated from the width.

background - optional; You can set the background of the container (the image will be adjusted to the size of the container and if they do not match, then the gaps can be filled in as desired). Default background is white.

Priority: 1 - image; 2 - parentImage; 3 - color;

{
      bounds: {
        width: 650,
        height: 200,
      },
      viewport: {
        width: 750,
        height: 200,
        isChanged: true,
        'aspect-ratio': 16/9,
      },
      background: {
        image: background,
        parentImage: true,
        color: 'red',
      }
    }

Get cropped image 💾

method getCrop return url string; without params getCrop return scaled crop by current aspect-ratio or you can add params:

// return scaled crop by current aspect-ratio
cuttie.getCrop();
// If the width and height do not match the aspect-ratio,
// will fill the problems with black
cuttie.getCrop(width: number, height: number)

Get current viewport position 🧭

method getPosition returns an object of the form:

{
  x: number,
  y: number,
  width: number,
  height: number
}

You can directly change viewport values 🔢

method updatePosition takes 4 parameters as input:

cuttie.updatePosition(
  x: number,y: number, width: number, height: number
  )

This method works very carefully, it does not take into account aspect-ratio and viewport size, it interacts directly with the viewport

Update Aspect-ratio 🖼

method updateAr takes string as input:

cuttie.updateAr('16/9');
