Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Simple and fast dashboard skeleton on Bootstrap

Readme

Dashboard skeleton

Simple and fast dashboard skeleton template combining a responsive sidebar and a multi-level menu.

License: MIT npm version Build status

Installation

npm install dashboard-skeleton-compostrap

Styles

Load the dashboard styles after the sidebar packages, so the dashboard layer can finish the composed layout:

import 'sidebar-skeleton-compostrap/sidebar.css';
import 'sidebar-menu-compostrap/sidebar-menu.css';
import 'sidebar-menu-2-compostrap/sidebar-custom.css';
import 'dashboard-skeleton-compostrap/dashboard.css';

JavaScript Initialization

The dashboard requires initialization of its core components. Add the following to your main JavaScript file:

import { Sidebar } from 'sidebar-skeleton-compostrap';
import { SidebarMenuApp } from 'sidebar-menu-compostrap';
import { ThemeSwitcher } from 'theme-switcher-compostrap';

document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', () => {
	// Initialize Sidebar structure
	Sidebar.init();

	// Initialize Multi-level Menu logic
	SidebarMenuApp.init();

	// Initialize global Bootstrap theme management
	new ThemeSwitcher().initialize();
});

ThemeSwitcher is provided by theme-switcher-compostrap and switches Bootstrap's global data-bs-theme.

Components

The dashboard is built by integrating these core components:

Themes

The dashboard supports Bootstrap Light and Dark themes through data-bs-theme.

<html lang="en" data-bs-theme="light">

You can switch the value manually, with your own JavaScript, or by using the theme switcher from theme-switcher-compostrap. Bootstrap components such as inputs, tables, dropdowns, and cards follow the selected theme automatically.

The dashboard keeps Bootstrap's natural surface colors:

| Theme | Page background | Sidebar and content | |-------|----------------------------|---------------------| | Light | var(--bs-tertiary-bg) | var(--bs-body-bg) | | Dark | var(--bs-dark-bg-subtle) | var(--bs-body-bg) |

This keeps form controls and other Bootstrap components visually aligned with the content surface without extra overrides.

The dashboard is the composition layer: it changes the global Bootstrap theme for the whole page. Sidebar packages read the same data-bs-theme, so no additional sidebar theme attribute is needed.

Theme switch labels

The theme switcher uses English labels by default. If your application handles translations in HTML templates, pass translated labels through data-* attributes:

<button
	type="button"
	class="btn btn-link nav-link theme-switcher py-2 px-0 px-lg-2 border-0 text-decoration-none"
	aria-label="Toggle theme"
	data-theme-switcher
	data-theme-light-label="Light mode"
	data-theme-dark-label="Dark mode"
>
	<i data-theme-switcher-icon class="fa-solid fa-moon"></i>
	<span data-theme-switcher-label>Dark mode</span>
</button>

The JavaScript reads those values and updates the icon and label when the theme changes. If the attributes are missing, the default English labels and Font Awesome icons are used.

Advanced Customization

For modern visual enhancements like tinted menu backgrounds, custom icon colors, and refined alignment, we highly recommend using the sidebar-menu-custom package.
