Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

datum-api

v0.4.0-alpha

Published

A simple RESTful mock service for front-end clients.

Readme

Datum

A database-less Node / Express server for mocking out a RESTful API...

Installation

If you want to use datum globally outside of Node / NPM based project install the Node module as a global:

$ npm install --global datum-api

Or if using inside a JavaScript / Node / NPM based project:

$ npm install --save-dev datum-api

Usage

To get the datum server up and running use:

$ datum

This will get the datum server started locally on port 3000. Datum is configured to look for fixture files inside a fixtures directory by detfault. If you wish to change either of these options you can optionally pass either to the datum binary.

$ FIXTURES=json-files datum --port 3030

Ember.js support

Datum comes with support for Ember.js based applications. Support for the Ember DS.RESTAdapter is included and support for the Ember DS.ActiveModelAdapter is in the works to allow your development based application to run in an almost like for like scenario as your production environment with no need to switch between adapters based on the environment.

To use the Emer DS.RESTAdapter run the Datum binary with the --ember rest flag or -e rest for short.

$ datum --ember rest

Feature list

The following are features planned for development:

  • Add feature to allow deletion of resources
  • Add a serializer with support for Ember DS.ActiveModelAdapter
  • Add support for specifying the resource id field, speficically to mimic MongoDB _id based formats
  • Add support for a --json-root false flag to remove the root resource JSON object for Ember.js based resources
  • Add support for a .datumrc file to ease setting various options
  • Fairly ambitious: Add ability to sort collection based resources with a user defined param
  • Very ambitious: Nested resources support
