Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A Dayjs plugin to add support for time intervals

dayjs-plugin-time-interval

A Dayjs plugin to add support for time intervals, as described in ISO 8601.

Installation & Setup

To install, use your favorite package manager:

npm install dayjs dayjs-plugin-time-interval

Then, to setup, call dayjs.extend with the plugin:

import dayjs from "dayjs";
import timeInterval from "dayjs-plugin-time-interval";

dayjs.extend(timeInterval);

NOTE: this plugin will automatically extend dayjs with the Duration plugin if it hasn't been extended with it already, since it depends on durations to properly denote time intervals.

Usage

const now = dayjs();

// Construct `TimeInterval`s
const interval = dayjs.timeInterval({
  start: now,
  end: now.add(1, "hour"),
});
// Alternatively, you can construct intervals with any two of `start`, `end`, and `duration`
const interval2 = dayjs.timeInterval({
  start: now,
  duration: dayjs.duration(1, "hour"),
});
const interval3 = dayjs.timeInterval({
  end: now.add(1, "hour"),
  duration: dayjs.duration(1, "hour"),
});

// You can get fields of the interval
interval.duration.as("hour"); // 1
interval.start; // now
interval.end; // now.add(1, "hour");

// Check if an interval includes some time, with some specificity
interval.includes(now.add(2, "hours")); // false
interval.includes(now.add(5, "minutes"), "minutes"); // true

// Get a modified version of the interval (using immutable methods)
interval.withStart(now.add(5, "minutes"));
interval.withEnd(now.add(1, "hour").add(5, "minutes"));
// As a convenience, you can pass a callback which will be called with the interval's start or end
const startsLater = interval.withStart((start) => start.add(5, "minutes"));
const endsLater = interval.withEnd((end) => end.add(5, "minutes"));

// Check if two intervals overlap, with some specificity
interval.overlaps(startsLater, "minutes"); // true
interval.overlaps(endsLater.withStart(interval.end), "minutes"); // false

// Get as an ISO string
interval.toISOString(); // "ISO String/ISO String"
interval.toJSON(); // "ISO String/ISO String"

// Get both start and end formatted
interval.format("HH:mm:ss"); // { start: "HH:mm:ss", end: "HH:mm:ss" }
