Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

🛠 Design Context Protocol Toolkit - Extract, validate, and transform design systems automatically with CLI, API server, and integrations

Readme

🎯 Design Context Protocol (DCP)

The first generative UI infrastructure for design systems.

DCP automatically transforms any design system codebase into ShadCN-compatible registries with full theming intelligence, component composition analysis, and AI-ready metadata.

Overview

This package provides a complete implementation of the Design Component Protocol:

  • 🛠️ CLI Tools - Extract, mutate, validate, and serve DCP registries
  • 🌐 API Server - HTTP API for DCP operations
  • 🔌 MCP Server - Model Context Protocol integration
  • 📦 Integrations - VS Code extension, Figma plugin, Chrome extension

Installation

npm install -g @dcp/toolkit

Quick Start

Extract Components

dcp extract ./src/components --out ./registry

Start API Server

dcp-api --port 3000

MCP Integration

dcp-mcp --stdio

CLI Commands

  • dcp extract <path> - Extract components from source code
  • dcp mutate <registry> <patch> - Apply JSON Patch mutations
  • dcp validate <registry> - Validate registry against DCP schema
  • dcp serve <registry> - Start development server
  • dcp query <registry> - Search and filter components

API Usage

Start the HTTP API server:

dcp-api --port 3000 --cors

The server exposes endpoints defined in the DCP OpenAPI specification:

  • POST /extract - Extract components from uploaded source
  • POST /mutate - Apply mutations to registry
  • POST /validate - Validate registry data
  • GET /query - Query registry contents

Programmatic Usage

import { extractComponents, mutateRegistry } from '@dcp/toolkit';

// Extract components
const result = await extractComponents('./src/components');

// Apply mutations
const patched = await mutateRegistry(registry, patches);

Configuration

Create a dcp.config.json file:

{
  "include": ["src/**/*.{tsx,jsx}"],
  "exclude": ["**/*.test.*", "**/*.stories.*"],
  "adaptors": ["react-tsx"],
  "tokens": {
    "extractCssVariables": true,
    "extractTailwindClasses": true
  }
}

Integrations

VS Code Extension

Install the DCP VS Code extension for:

  • Component IntelliSense
  • Schema validation
  • Live registry updates

Figma Plugin

Connect Figma designs to your component registry:

  • Token synchronization
  • Component validation
  • Design-to-code workflows

Chrome Extension

Browser extension for:

  • Component extraction from live sites
  • Design system analysis
  • Token detection

Dependencies

This toolkit depends on @dcp/spec for schema definitions and API contracts.
