Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Design System AI Lab

Design System AI Lab is being rebooted as a GenAI-ready React/Vite design system and Figma Make kit.

The goal is not to restrict GenAI to component assembly.

The goal is to help GenAI generate better product screens by using the design system’s components, patterns, principles, domain knowledge and guardrails.

Current branch

reboot/from-figma-make

This branch rebuilds the project from the Figma Make Installed Base Intelligence prototype.

The previous repository state is preserved in:

legacy/pre-reboot-main

Product reference

The first reboot target is:

Installed Base Intelligence

The prototype defines the first product reference for:

Main Navigation
Page Header
View & Filter Bar
Installed Base List
Asset Detail Panel

These layers are the starting reference for the first release. They are not intended to make every future screen follow the same structure.

Design system philosophy

This project treats the design system as more than a component library.

components = reliable interface material
patterns = reusable composition structures
principles = design judgment
knowledge = domain, user and product context
contracts = guardrails against critical generation failures

GenAI should prefer approved components and patterns, but it should also apply the design system’s principles and domain knowledge to make better design decisions.

Contracts are guardrails. They should prevent critical failures such as invented evidence, fake sources, local design system clones, misleading value claims or broken domain values.

They are not meant to turn the system into a rigid screen generator.

Current roadmap

See:

docs/reboot/roadmap.md

Reboot sequence

1. Preserve the legacy repository state
2. Clean the reboot branch
3. Import the Figma Make prototype
4. Run the prototype exactly as-is
5. Extract the minimal design system
6. Document patterns, principles and knowledge
7. Add guardrail contracts
8. Connect the Make kit
9. Extend toward additional product screens

Status

Reboot in progress.
Not production-ready.
Do not use as a stable package yet.
