Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

docx-vanilla-viewer

npm version license types

A browser Word document editor for plain JavaScript, using one shared editor and the canonical OOXML document engine.

Live demo | npm | Full docs | Source

Install

npm install docx-vanilla-viewer

The package bundles its editor UI and adapter. The core model and shared controls are installed as regular registry dependencies and the model API is re-exported. One viewer package is enough; no separate core install is required.

Quick start

import { createDocument, mountEditor } from 'docx-vanilla-viewer';

const container = document.createElement('div');
container.style.height = '600px';
document.body.append(container);
const editor = mountEditor(container, {
	documentModel: createDocument(),
	onDocumentChange: (model) => console.log(model),
	onDocumentError: (error) => console.error(error),
});
const bytes = new Uint8Array(await (await fetch('/example.docx')).arrayBuffer());
await editor.load(bytes); // DOCX, or a legacy Word 97-2003 .doc
const saved = await editor.save();
editor.destroy();

Mount in the browser and give the host a height. Use one editor package per application: each registers the same editor custom element.

Features

| Feature | Description | | ---------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Editing | Shared ProseMirror editor, ribbon, dialogs and document change events. | | Files | Modern DOCX and limited legacy Word 97-2003 DOC loading through core. | | Model | createDocument, loadDocx, saveDocx and core types from the package entry. | | Frameworks | The same <docx-editor> UI behind six thin adapters. |

API

The shared props, event handlers, loadDocument and detectDocumentFormat helpers are available from the package. For an imperative browser integration, mountEditor(container, options) returns a binding with load, save and destroy. ProseMirror, docx-core, ooxml-core and ooxml-ui are regular dependencies; document and layout algorithms live in OOXML core.

Limitations

This is an early editor. It does not establish Microsoft Word layout parity or lossless saving for unsupported features. Legacy DOC support is limited to main-body text with constrained paragraph edits. SmartArt is display-only and charts render as placeholders.
