Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

domain-intel

An MCP server that gives AI agents real-time domain intelligence — DNS records, WHOIS registration data, SSL certificate status, and domain availability checks.

No API keys required. All lookups use native protocols (DNS, WHOIS over TCP, TLS handshakes) with zero external dependencies.

Tools

dns_records

Look up DNS records for any domain. Returns A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME, and SOA records. Optionally filter to specific record types.

whois_lookup

Query WHOIS registration data. Returns registrar, creation/expiry dates, nameservers, and registrant information. Supports .com, .net, .org, .io, .dev, .app, .co, .me, .ai, .xyz, .info, and more.

ssl_check

Inspect the SSL/TLS certificate for a domain. Returns issuer, validity dates, days until expiry, fingerprint, and subject alternative names. Useful for monitoring cert expiration or verifying HTTPS configuration.

check_availability

Check whether a domain is available for registration. Uses a two-phase approach: a fast DNS lookup followed by WHOIS confirmation for accuracy.

Quick Start

Run directly with npx — no installation needed:

npx domain-intel

Or install globally:

npm install -g domain-intel
domain-intel

Usage with Claude Desktop

Add this to your Claude Desktop configuration file:

macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "domain-intel": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "domain-intel"]
    }
  }
}

Restart Claude Desktop. You can now ask things like:

  • "Look up the DNS records for stripe.com"
  • "When does github.com's SSL certificate expire?"
  • "Is cool-startup-name.com available?"
  • "Who registered openai.com and when does it expire?"

Usage with Claude Code

claude mcp add domain-intel -- npx -y domain-intel

Usage with Cursor

Add to your .cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "domain-intel": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "domain-intel"]
    }
  }
}

Testing with MCP Inspector

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx -y domain-intel

Development

git clone https://github.com/jason-shprintz/mcp-services.git
cd mcp-services/packages/domain-intel
npm install
npm run build
