Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

ds4-context-reference-adapter

Non-Pi JSONL reference runtime adapter and DS4 adapter-contract example.

ds4-context-reference-adapter

Non-Pi reference implementation of the DS4 runtime-adapter-v1 contract.

The package adapts an append-only JSONL conversation owned by a small callback-driven agent runtime. It is intentionally vendor-neutral: completion transport is injected by the host, while runtime SDK dependencies stay outside ds4-context-core.

Guarantees

  • JSONL is canonical; in-memory snapshots are disposable and rebuildable.
  • Canonical messages retain stable provenance and complete tool call/result atomic groups.
  • The trusted project root is canonicalized and must match the session header.
  • Model limits use the portable DS4 model descriptor.
  • Provider payloads pass privacy enforcement immediately before the injected transport.
  • Privacy failures fail closed; transport failures return an explicit native-fallback result.
  • Unsupported compaction, provider continuation, embeddings, and local KV reuse are negotiated independently with explicit diagnostics.
  • An injected LocalKvRuntimePort can opt into exact-prefix local KV reuse; the port retains every handle and cache miss transparently replays the full sanitized payload.
  • Shutdown is idempotent, clears optional volatile KV state through its port, and rejects further history access.

Example

import {
  JsonlReferenceRuntimeAdapter,
  createReferenceHistory,
} from "ds4-context-reference-adapter";

createReferenceHistory({
  historyFile: ".agent/session.jsonl",
  runtimeId: "my-runtime",
  sessionId: "session-1",
  projectRoot: process.cwd(),
  messages: [],
});

const adapter = new JsonlReferenceRuntimeAdapter({
  historyFile: ".agent/session.jsonl",
  projectRoot: process.cwd(),
  runtimeId: "my-runtime",
  model: {
    provider: "my-provider",
    id: "my-model",
    contextWindow: 32_768,
    maxTokens: 4_096,
  },
  transport: async ({ payload }) => invokeMyRuntime(payload),
});

const snapshot = await adapter.snapshotHistory();
const negotiation = adapter.negotiateCapabilities([
  { id: "compaction" },
  { id: "embeddings" },
]);

Local runtimes can additionally provide localKv: { enabled, port, runtimeRevision, modelRevision, prepare }. The prepare callback receives only the privacy-sanitized payload and returns exact prefix bytes, system/tool options, reusable-prefix tokens, and total context tokens. Core diagnostics contain aggregate counts only; cache handles never leave the injected port.

createReferenceHistory refuses to overwrite an existing canonical session. appendReferenceHistoryMessage appends one provenance-checked message. Applications should serialize canonical writes according to their own runtime lifecycle.

Conformance

Adapter authors can reuse the framework-neutral kit exported by core:

import {
  assertRuntimeAdapterConformance,
  runRuntimeAdapterConformance,
} from "ds4-context-core/adapter/conformance";

const report = await runRuntimeAdapterConformance(myAdapterFactory);
assertRuntimeAdapterConformance(report);

See the repository's docs/RUNTIME_ADAPTER_KIT.md for the complete contract and docs/LOCAL_KV_REUSE.md for local KV eligibility, replay, privacy, diagnostics, and lifecycle rules.
