Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

DeepSeek Harness web-surface plugin: a hero character image tucked behind the composer input plus a lifted headline

dsh-web-hero-patch

A DeepSeek Harness web-surface plugin: a hero character image tucked behind the composer input plus a lifted headline — the "everything is a plugin" way to dress up the new-session hero.

What it does

In the new-session hero state of the Web GUI:

  • renders assets/deepseek_smile.png above the composer input, tucked slightly behind the input card (layer relationship: input bar in front, character behind), with a soft silhouette drop shadow;
  • keeps the workspace / mode row right above the input bar, floating over the image's lower area;
  • lifts the headline ("探索未至之境" / "Into the Unknown") 52px up.

How it works

  • Host half (lib/index.js): registers a /hero-image/ prefix route on the DSH webserver that streams the package's PNG assets (traversal-proof), so the client bundle stays tiny and the image is browser-cached.
  • Client half (lib/client.js): a pure-CSS patch injected as one <style> tag — the image is a ::before flex item of the hero composer stack and the headline is reordered/lifted with order + transform. No React, no client dependencies.

The dsh.client declaration makes DSH serve this package automatically at /plugins/dsh-web-hero-patch/client.js and inject it into the boot manifest.

Install

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-web-hero-patch
# restart the dsh web process, then refresh the GUI page (Cmd+R)

Tuning

All knobs live in one CSS string in lib/client.js:

| Knob | Current value | Effect | |---|---|---| | width | 280px | image width (1/5 of the 1400px source) | | aspect-ratio | 1400/1123 | keeps the image undistorted | | margin | 0 0 -58px | overlap with the input bar (-48px cancels the row gap; the rest is the tuck) | | drop-shadow(...) | 0 6px 10px rgba(15,23,42,.22) | silhouette shadow | | translateY | -52px | headline lift |

After a release, bump the version and refresh the profile:

npm version patch && npm publish
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-web-hero-patch@latest
# restart the dsh web process, refresh the page
