Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

dumb-n-honest

v0.2.11

Published

Private local benchmark of explicit correction acknowledgments in your Claude Code and Codex history. Downloads and SHA256-verifies the official dumb-n-honest release, then runs it with your local Python 3.10+. No transcript content leaves your machine.

dumb-n-honest (npx)

Run the dumb-n-honest private local benchmark with one command:

npx dumb-n-honest
npx dumb-n-honest doctor
npx dumb-n-honest run --output-dir ./my-audit --no-png

With no arguments, the launcher runs the full audit with both providers and both language packs. It writes to a new timestamped dumb-n-honest-output-* directory in the current working directory, so existing results are never overwritten.

Open report.html for the chart, editable draft, provider/family/model filters and PNG/SVG downloads. Older generations are hidden by default. The large number is correction acknowledgments per 100 answered turns; usage is labelled separately. A ready-to-share chart.png is exported when rsvg-convert is installed, or can be downloaded from the report in your browser. Pass --export-share-pack for separate poster, draft and alt-text files.

This package is a thin launcher with no npm dependencies. It:

  1. finds a local Python 3.10+ interpreter,
  2. downloads the official dumb-n-honest release from GitHub Releases,
  3. verifies its SHA256 against a hash pinned in this package before every run,
  4. extracts the verified archive to a fresh temporary directory,
  5. runs the original Python scripts and removes the temporary directory afterward.

The launcher uses the network only to fetch a missing release archive. It never reads transcripts; all parsing stays in the verified Python release. The audit itself runs offline, writes only aggregates, and never publishes anything automatically. Requires Node 18+ (for the launcher only) and Python 3.10+.

DUMB_N_HONEST_VERSION can select only a release whose SHA256 is pinned by the installed launcher.
