Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

dump-code

v1.0.2

Published

Recursively dump a project's files into a single markdown file

Readme

dump-code

Recursively dump a project's files into a single markdown file using fenced code block with the related language tag of the file. I use alot for pasting a codebase into an LLM or sharing it as one document.

Install

npm install -g dump-code

Requires Node.js 14.18 or newer.

Usage

Run it from the root of the project you want to dump:

dump-code

This writes dump.md in the current directory.

Options

| Option | Description | | --- | --- | | -i, --ignore [IGNORE ...] | Files or directories to ignore (gitignore-style globs supported) | | --only [ONLY ...] | Only include these specific files or directories | | -x, --extension [EXT ...] | Only include files with these extensions | | -o, --output OUTPUT | Output file (default: dump.md) | | -h, --help | Show help |

Examples

# Only Python and JavaScript files
dump -x py js

# Ignore a folder and all log files
dump -i node_modules "*.log"

# Only the src folder and one file, written to a custom output
dump --only src package.json -o project.md

Ignore files

dump automatically reads these from the current directory, if they exist:

  1. .gitignore
  2. .dumpignore

Both are optional. Patterns from -i are applied last. Since the last matching rule wins, a !pattern in .dumpignore can re-include something that .gitignore excluded.

Supported pattern syntax: *, ?, [abc], **, a leading / (anchor to root), a trailing / (directories only), and ! (negation). The .git folder is always skipped.

Example .dumpignore:

# Don't include lock files or build output in the dump.md file
package-lock.json
dist/
*.min.js

Output format

Each file becomes a section like this, e.g:

## src/index.js
```javascript
console.log("hello")
```

## src/cli.js
```javascript
import { program } from 'commander'
...
...
```

## package.json
```json
{
  "name": "my-package",
  "version": "2.0.0",
  "type": "module",
  ...
  ...
}
