Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Dynamic Popup

A tooltip with a fully customizable content and style. It's triggered by click event on the target you specify. It'll relocate itself if it overflows the user's viewport.

Live Demo

Usage

You can install the package with NPM. npm i dynamic-popup

Or just download the minified file.

After downloading files,

var DynamicPopup = require('dynamic-popup')

or

define(['path/to/dynamic-popup'], /*...*/)

or

<script type='text/javascript' src='path/to/dynamic-popup.min.js' />

and

new DynamicPopup({
  el: document.getElementById('example-target'),
  content: '<p>hello</p>',
  className: 'my-example-popup',
  direction: 'right'
})

Options

el and content are the only required parameters to get DynamicPopup properly work. It has also some handy options.

el: Target element. When clicked, DynamicPopup will appear.

content: What will appear in popup. Can be any markup code.

className | optional: This can be either a string or an array of className strings. You will have individual CSS selectors for each of them. e.g:

DynamicPopup({
 // ...
 className: ['my-example-popup', 'my-info-popup']
 // ...
})
.my-example-popup {/*...*/}
.my-example-popup__content {/*...*/}
.my-example-popup__chevron {/*...*/}

.my-info-popup {/*...*/}
.my-info-popup__content {/*...*/}
.my-info-popup__chevron {/*...*/}

direction | optional: What direction popup will appear to. Can be 'top', 'left', 'right', 'bottom'. Default: 'bottom'.

prefetch | optional: If enabled, any external sources found in content will be fetched before popup is visible. Can be used to enhance experience. Default: false

Styling

DynamicPopup comes with little styling. It provides a set of CSS selectors that you can rely on when styling your popups. See demo for styling examples.

You can override default popup style.

.dynamic-popup {/*...*/}
.dynamic-popup__content {/*...*/}
.dynamic-popup__chevron {/*...*/}

You can override a specific popup

.my-example-popup {/*...*/}
.my-example-popup__content {/*...*/}
.my-example-popup__chevron {/*...*/}

Notes

.destroy()

DynamicPopup will destroy itself when clicked outside of popup but you may want to destroy it yourself in some circumstances. In such cases, you can use:

var myPopup = new DynamicPopup(/*...*/)

myPopup.destroy()

This will remove popup and its bindings from DOM.
