Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

CLI for discovering Elij UI components

Readme

Elij UI Library CLI

Discover components, registry metadata, props, and Storybook stories from the published elij-ui-library package.

Install

Run commands without a global install:

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli list

Or install it in a project:

npm install -D elij-ui-library-cli

The package provides three equivalent command names:

elij-ui
elij-ui-library
elij-ui-library-cli

The short elij-ui command is recommended.

Commands

List all components

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli list

Example output:

Button — actions
Card — layout
EventCarousel — content

Search components

Search component names, categories, and descriptions:

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli search button
npx -y elij-ui-library-cli search carousel
npx -y elij-ui-library-cli search whatsapp

Inspect one component

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli info Button
npx -y elij-ui-library-cli info EventCarousel
npx -y elij-ui-library-cli info WhatsAppButton

Example output:

Name: EventCarousel
Category: content
Description: A responsive carousel for event images.
Import: EventCarousel
Story: EventCarousel/Default
Props: items, autoplay, interval, showArrows

Component names are case-insensitive, so info button and info Button are equivalent.

Check the registry

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli doctor

Example output:

Registry package: elij-ui-library
Registry version: 1.0.0
Components: 54
Status: ready

Typical workflow

search → info → copy the import and props → open the Storybook story

For example:

npx -y elij-ui-library-cli search pricing
npx -y elij-ui-library-cli info Card

Then import the component from your application:

import { Card } from "elij-ui-library";

Troubleshooting

Command not found

Use npx -y elij-ui-library-cli <command>, or install the package globally:

npm install -g elij-ui-library-cli

Component not found

Check the spelling with list or search. Component names are case-insensitive, but partial names only work with search.

Registry is not ready

Run doctor first and check that npm can download elij-ui-library. If you are using a private registry, verify your npm registry and login settings.

Development

From the monorepo root:

corepack yarn workspace elij-ui-library-cli build
corepack yarn workspace elij-ui-library-cli test
