whether you're a racer, a weekday commuter, a weekend warrior or just a keen cyclist looking for a bike that suits your style, giant's escape is a bike that will do the job for you well. it may not be the lightest or fastest bike on the road, but it's a great value performer with great brakes and a good range of gears.


giant's escape is a very capable touring bike in its own right, so if you've got a broader range of riding you'll find it fun and easy to ride. a few of the compromises i found when compared to a road bike are that it's heavier, its riding position is higher, the frame is slacker and the brakes are less powerful.


the escape has only one air shock, but it's a decent one. the ride quality is perfect for touring, it's easy to set up and it gives plenty of control over your front end. some of its more extreme features, such as the stiffness of the bar and the amount of travel, are something of a compromise for the reasons mentioned above, but i'm happy to say that in my time on the bike i didn't encounter any problems.


there is a good selection of bikepacking panniers on the market. this one is lightweight, comfy and well thought out. it's my first choice for a bikepacking pannier from this range, it's available in 10 sizes, and to fit it with a standard frame, you'll need to use a rack of some sort that accommodates a 3.5in wide handlebar. unfortunately it's not compatible with a rack and fender combo.


with the escape you can convert it from a high-riding, fairly heavy bike to a more comfortable touring bike, which will save you time and effort. and it's quite a versatile bike for someone who wants to do the odd race and maybe tour at the same time. 84d34552a1
