Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Comment-as-snippet for one-off codemod with ESLint.

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/28d8f7bb-e5ec-40aa-9125-d18d3da43f61

Introduction

This plugin is very much inspired by eslint-plugin-command by Anthony Fu. This plugin also serves as a micro-codemod tool triggers by special comments on-demand, reuse the infrastructure of ESLint.

Installation

Install the eslint-plugin-snippet package:

npm i eslint-plugin-snippet -D

In your flat config eslint.config.mjs:

// eslint.config.mjs
import snippet from 'eslint-plugin-snippet/config'

export default [
  // ... your other flat config
  snippet(),
]
// .eslintrc.js
module.exports = {
  plugins: [
    'snippet'
  ],
  rules: {
    'snippet/snippet': 'error',
  },
}

Plugin Configuration

You can configure the plugin by passing an object to the snippet function.

// eslint.config.mjs
import snippet from 'eslint-plugin-snippet/config'
import { builtInSnippets } from 'eslint-plugin-snippet/snippets'

export default [
  // ... your other flat config
  snippet({
    commandPrefix: ';',
    separator: '>',
    ignoreIndicator: '_',
    snippets: builtInSnippets,
  }),
]

One of the built-in snippets is function:

export default {
  name: 'function',
  command: 'f',
  template: `function fn($1) {
  $0
}`,
}

For examle, with the above configuration, you can trigger the snippet by //;f>body>param1, param2, which will be expanded to:

function fn(param1, param2) {
  body
}

//;f>_>param will be expanded to:

function fn(param) {

}

Custom Snippets

It's also possible to define your custom snippets.

// eslint.config.mjs
import { builtInSnippets, defineSnippets } from 'eslint-plugin-snippet/snippets'

const snippets = defineSnippets([
  ...builtInSnippets,
  {
    name: 'console.log',
    command: 'c',
    template: 'console.log($0)',
  },
  {
    name: 'function',
    command: 'f',
    template: `function fn($1) {
  $0
}`,
  },
])

As you can see, the index of the snippet-slots starts from 0: $0

Usage

  • Command Only: //;f
    function fn() {

    }
  • Command with slots: //;f>body>param
    function fn(param) {
      body
    }
  • Ignore: //;f>_>param
    function fn(param) {

    }
  • Escape character: //;c>'<test\>\;'
    console.log('<test>;')
  • Commnd nesting: //;f>;f>>;c>>>test>>test
    function fn() {
      function fn(test) {
        console.log(test)
      }
    }

Built-in Snippets

TODOs

  • [x] support something like ;>;b>>testb1>>testb2>testa1>;c>>;d>>>testd1
  • [x] support escape character
