Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

eslint-plugin-trailer-park-boys

npm version Tests

Enforce code standards and Canadian humour.

If you are a developer from Sunnyvale, this plugin is for you. It allows teams to override standard eslint directives and rules with new aliases, as well as returning clearer, more developer friendly error messages.

Instead of

// eslint-disable-next-line no-debugger
debugger;

You can now write:

// frig off ricky: lahey's watching
debugger;

Linting the above without the ignores returns the following error:

You think Lahey's not watching? Lose the surveillance shit before he shows up drunk with a warrant no-debugger

See below for a mapping of all values.

🗺️ Table of values

Added directive mappings

| Alias | ESLint Equivalent | | ------------------------------------------------ | ------------------------ | | frig off ricky | eslint-disable-next-line | | let the liquor do the thinking | eslint-disable | | nobody wants to admit they ate 9 cans of ravioli | eslint-enable | | i need this to work in the shed | eslint-env node | | this is for the internet people | eslint-env browser | | the cops are watching | eslint-env es6 |

Added rule mappings

| Alias | Rule | | ---------------------------------- | ---------------- | | you don't need that, ricky | no-unused-vars | | keep it down, boys | no-console | | same same, but different | eqeqeq | | lahey's watching | no-debugger | | finish your sentence, bubbles | semi | | julian only talks in singles | quotes | | what's with all the fuckin numbers | no-magic-numbers | | too many rickys in here | no-shadow | | what even is that, julian | no-undef | | you already said that, dumbass | no-redeclare | | that's as empty as randy's fridge | no-empty |

🚀 Install

npm install --save-dev eslint-plugin-trailer-park-boys

In your eslint config, then add the following:

  plugins: ["trailer-park-boys"],
  rules: {
    "no-unused-vars": "warn",
    "no-console": "warn",
    "no-debugger": "warn",
    // etc
  },

[!NOTE] You still need to enable the eslint rules — this plugin replaces the messages, not the rules themselves.

✅ Tests

Sleep well knowing that there is 100% test coverage via Vitest (yes seriously lol)
