Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

everything-search-cli-mcp

An MCP server that wraps es.exe (Everything Search CLI) to give Claude near-instant indexed file search on Windows. Communicates with the Everything desktop app over IPC.

Prerequisites

  • Windows (x64, x86, or ARM64)
  • Everything desktop app installed and running

🤖 AI Assistant Quick Install

Copy the text block below and paste it to your AI assistant (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, etc.) — it will install and register this MCP automatically.

You are an AI assistant. The user wants you to install the everything-search-cli-mcp MCP server.

First, ask the user: "Which AI tool are you using in list format, then install and change necessary file for user (e.g. Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop)"

Then follow the steps below based on their answer:

--- If Claude Code, Codex CLI, or Cursor (has terminal access) ---

1. Install globally:
   npm install -g everything-search-cli-mcp

2. Register:
   - Claude Code:  claude mcp add everything-search -- everything-search-cli-mcp
   - Codex CLI:    codex mcp add everything-search -- everything-search-cli-mcp
   - Cursor: add the JSON below to .cursor/mcp.json in the project root
   - VS Code: add the JSON below to .vscode/mcp.json in the project root

   JSON format:
   {
     "mcpServers": {
       "everything-search": {
         "command": "everything-search-cli-mcp"
       }
     }
   }

3. Tell the user installation is complete and ask them to restart their AI tool.

--- If Claude Desktop ---

Claude Desktop does not support automatic installation. Tell the user to follow these manual steps:

1. Run in terminal: npm install -g everything-search-cli-mcp
2. Open: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
3. Add the following inside "mcpServers":
   "everything-search": {
     "command": "everything-search-cli-mcp"
   }
4. Restart Claude Desktop.

Note: This MCP is Windows-only and requires the Everything desktop app to be installed and running (https://www.voidtools.com/).

Setup

1. Install:

npm install -g everything-search-cli-mcp

2. Register in your AI tool's config:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "everything-search": {
      "command": "everything-search-cli-mcp"
    }
  }
}

es.exe binaries

es.exe is pre-bundled for all architectures — no separate download needed. To use a newer version, download the latest from voidtools and replace the corresponding file in bin/:

| File | Architecture | |------|-------------| | bin/es-x64.exe | x64 (most PCs) | | bin/es-x86.exe | 32-bit | | bin/es-arm64.exe | ARM64 |
