Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

AES-128

CBC Mode (A128CBC-HS256)

WebCbcCipher provides AES-128-CBC encryption and decryption using Web Crypto API.

In CBC mode, the Content Encryption Key (CEK) includes both the encryption key and the MAC key:

  • A128CBC-HS256: 32 bytes (16 bytes for encryption + 16 bytes for MAC)
import { WebCryptoModule } from 'expo-crypto-universal-web';
import { WebCbcCipher } from 'expo-aes-universal-web';

// Create crypto module
const crypto = new WebCryptoModule();

// Create cipher instance
const cipher = new WebCbcCipher(crypto);

// Define plaintext
const plaintext = new Uint8Array([1, 2, 3, 4]);

// Generate random CEK for AES-128-CBC-HS256
const cek = await crypto.getRandomBytes(32); // 32 bytes (16 for encryption + 16 for MAC)

// Encrypt data
const { ciphertext, tag, iv } = await cipher.encrypt({
  enc: 'A128CBC-HS256', // AES-128 in CBC mode with HMAC-SHA-256
  cek,
  plaintext,
});

// Decrypt data
const decrypted = await cipher.decrypt({
  enc: 'A128CBC-HS256',
  cek,
  ciphertext,
  tag,
  iv,
});

expect(decrypted).toEqual(plaintext);

GCM Mode (A128GCM)

WebGcmCipher provides AES-128-GCM encryption and decryption using Web Crypto API.

In GCM mode, the Content Encryption Key (CEK) is used directly for encryption:

  • A128GCM: 16 bytes
import { WebCryptoModule } from 'expo-crypto-universal-web';
import { WebGcmCipher } from 'expo-aes-universal-web';

// Create crypto module
const crypto = new WebCryptoModule();

// Create cipher instance
const cipher = new WebGcmCipher(crypto);

// Define plaintext
const plaintext = new Uint8Array([1, 2, 3, 4]);

// Generate random CEK for AES-128-GCM
const cek = await crypto.getRandomBytes(16); // 16 bytes

// Encrypt data
const { ciphertext, tag, iv } = await cipher.encrypt({
  enc: 'A128GCM', // AES-128 in GCM mode
  cek,
  plaintext,
  aad: new Uint8Array([5, 6, 7, 8]), // Additional authenticated data
});

// Decrypt data
const decrypted = await cipher.decrypt({
  enc: 'A128GCM',
  cek,
  ciphertext,
  tag,
  iv,
  aad: new Uint8Array([5, 6, 7, 8]),
});

expect(decrypted).toEqual(plaintext);

AES-192

CBC Mode (A192CBC-HS384)

WebCbcCipher provides AES-192-CBC encryption and decryption using Web Crypto API.

In CBC mode, the Content Encryption Key (CEK) includes both the encryption key and the MAC key:

  • A192CBC-HS384: 48 bytes (24 bytes for encryption + 24 bytes for MAC)
import { WebCryptoModule } from 'expo-crypto-universal-web';
import { WebCbcCipher } from 'expo-aes-universal-web';

// Create crypto module
const crypto = new WebCryptoModule();

// Create cipher instance
const cipher = new WebCbcCipher(crypto);

// Define plaintext
const plaintext = new Uint8Array([1, 2, 3, 4]);

// Generate random CEK for AES-192-CBC-HS384
const cek = await crypto.getRandomBytes(48); // 48 bytes (24 for encryption + 24 for MAC)

// Encrypt data
const { ciphertext, tag, iv } = await cipher.encrypt({
  enc: 'A192CBC-HS384', // AES-192 in CBC mode with HMAC-SHA-384
  cek,
  plaintext,
});

// Decrypt data
const decrypted = await cipher.decrypt({
  enc: 'A192CBC-HS384',
  cek,
  ciphertext,
  tag,
  iv,
});

expect(decrypted).toEqual(plaintext);

GCM Mode (A192GCM)

WebGcmCipher provides AES-192-GCM encryption and decryption using Web Crypto API.

In GCM mode, the Content Encryption Key (CEK) is used directly for encryption:

  • A192GCM: 24 bytes
import { WebCryptoModule } from 'expo-crypto-universal-web';
import { WebGcmCipher } from 'expo-aes-universal-web';

// Create crypto module
const crypto = new WebCryptoModule();

// Create cipher instance
const cipher = new WebGcmCipher(crypto);

// Define plaintext
const plaintext = new Uint8Array([1, 2, 3, 4]);

// Generate random CEK for AES-192-GCM
const cek = await crypto.getRandomBytes(24); // 24 bytes

// Encrypt data
const { ciphertext, tag, iv } = await cipher.encrypt({
  enc: 'A192GCM', // AES-192 in GCM mode
  cek,
  plaintext,
  aad: new Uint8Array([5, 6, 7, 8]), // Additional authenticated data
});

// Decrypt data
const decrypted = await cipher.decrypt({
  enc: 'A192GCM',
  cek,
  ciphertext,
  tag,
  iv,
  aad: new Uint8Array([5, 6, 7, 8]),
});

expect(decrypted).toEqual(plaintext);

AES-256

CBC Mode (A256CBC-HS512)

WebCbcCipher provides AES-256-CBC encryption and decryption using Web Crypto API.

In CBC mode, the Content Encryption Key (CEK) includes both the encryption key and the MAC key:

  • A256CBC-HS512: 64 bytes (32 bytes for encryption + 32 bytes for MAC)
import { WebCryptoModule } from 'expo-crypto-universal-web';
