Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Supercharge your vanilla React Native apps with Expo Atlas metrics

InstallationUsageDocumentationContributing

Overview

This package allows you to use Expo Atlas in your vanilla React Native applications without requiring a full Expo setup. It provides the same functionality as Expo Atlas in Expo apps but works with custom Metro configurations.

✨ Features

  • 🔄 Seamless integration with existing Metro config
  • 📊 Full Expo Atlas metrics support
  • 🛠 Custom serializer preservation
  • ⚡️ Zero performance overhead
  • 🎯 Simple one-line setup

🚀 Installation

npm install --save-dev expo-atlas-without-expo expo-atlas
# or
yarn add -D expo-atlas-without-expo expo-atlas
# or
pnpm add --save-dev expo-atlas-without-expo expo-atlas

📖 Usage

  1. Import the adapter in your Metro configuration file (metro.config.js):
const { withExpoAtlasWithoutExpo } = require('expo-atlas-without-expo');

module.exports = withExpoAtlasWithoutExpo({
  // Your existing Metro configuration
}, {
  // Optional: Specify custom Atlas options
  atlasFile: 'path/to/atlas-stats.json'
});
  1. Bundle your application using the React Native CLI:
npx react-native bundle --platform ios --dev false --entry-file index.js --bundle-output ios/main.jsbundle
# or for Android
npx react-native bundle --platform android --dev false --entry-file index.js --bundle-output android/app/src/main/assets/index.android.bundle
  1. Run Expo Atlas - it will automatically detect and analyze the statistics gathered during bundling:
npx expo-atlas

⚙️ Configuration Options

The withExpoAtlasWithoutExpo function accepts two parameters:

  • metroConfig: Your base Metro configuration object
  • options: (Optional) An object with the following properties:
    • atlasFile: Custom path for the Atlas statistics output file

🔍 How It Works

The adapter wraps your Metro configuration with Expo Atlas while preserving your existing serializer settings. It ensures compatibility between Expo Atlas and your custom Metro setup by:

  1. Maintaining your existing Metro configuration
  2. Adding the necessary Expo Atlas instrumentation
  3. Preserving any custom serializers you may have configured

💡 Example

const { withExpoAtlasWithoutExpo } = require('expo-atlas-without-expo');

const config = {
  transformer: {
    // Your transformer config
  },
  resolver: {
    // Your resolver config
  },
  // ... other Metro config options
};

module.exports = withExpoAtlasWithoutExpo(config, {
  atlasFile: './build/atlas-stats.json'
});
