Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Expo IDnow Auto Ident Plugin

This is a plugin for integrating IDnow's Auto Ident SDK into an Expo application.

Warning: This is NOT an official package from IDnow. It was tested with Expo SDK 53 and RN 0.79.

For more information about the IDnow Auto Ident SDK, please refer to the official documentation:

Installation

npm install expo-rn-idnow-auto-ident

Configure with Expo

The Expo plugin will manage the permissions and other configuration for you. Just add the plugin to your app.json or app.config.js:

{
  "expo": {
    "plugins": [
      [
        "expo-rn-idnow-auto-ident",
        {
          "cameraPermission": "We need access to the camera to verify your identity.",
          "galleryPermission": "We need access to the photo library to upload identification documents.",
          "androidMediaProjection": true
        }
      ]
    ]
  }
}

The plugin supports the following options: | Option | Type | Required | Description | | ------------------------ | ------- | -------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- | | cameraPermission | string | No | Custom message for NSCameraUsageDescription on iOS. | | galleryPermission | string | No | Custom message for NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription on iOS. | | androidMediaProjection | boolean | No (default: true) | Whether to request android.permission.MEDIA_PROJECTION on Android. |

Configure with Bare Workflow

  • On Android, add the permissions to your AndroidManifest.xml as stated here. Include the maven repository in your build.gradle as stated here.
  • On iOS, add the required permissions to your Info.plist as stated here.

Usage

import ExpoIdNowAutoIdent from 'expo-rn-idnow-auto-ident';

const token = 'xxx-xxxxx';
const language: string | undefined = 'en';
ExpoIdNowAutoIdent.startIdentification(token, language)
  .then((result) => {
    console.log('Identification result:', result);
  })
  .catch((error) => {
    console.error('Identification error:', error);
  });

The startIdentification method resolves with an object containing the identification result:

export type IdentificationResult = {
  type: 'finished';
} | {
  type: 'error';
  /** @see https://github.com/idnow/de.idnow.ios.sdk.spm?tab=readme-ov-file#sdk-error-codes */
  errorCode: string;
};

Check the Example app for a complete implementation.

Uploading to Play Store

If you plan to upload your app to the Play Store, you need to update your App Declaration, as the SDK uses the android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE permission. Read more about it in the official documentation.
