Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Node.js Extra Life Donation Notifier

A library for watching your extralife pages for live events when a donation is made

About

I mainly wrote this because it didn't seem like there was anything similar out there that could listen to the API in realtime.

This module is multi-platform and can be used in Node.js scripts or within the browser. It requires a few libraries that should work across both platforms. It may require polyfils if your browser does not support fetch.

Donation object shapes from each event will match the DonorDrive Public API spec.

Installation

You can install the module via npm or yarn:

npm i extralife-donation-notifier
yarn add extralife-donation-notifier

Usage

Sample usage can be found in the samples folder.

There are 2 donation events that can be listened to, and 3 others for your own reference.

started: For when the watcher begins

participant-donation: For when someone donates to your particular participant campaign

team-donation: For when your team receives a donation

ping: This event is fired each time the APIs are queried

error: Fired when there is some kind of error in the APIs

Node.js

const { ExtraLifeDonationWatcher } = require('extra-life-donation-watcher');

const watcher = new ExtraLifeDonationWatcher({ participantId: '532356' });

watcher.on('started', () => {
  console.log('watching for donations');
});

watcher.on('participant-donation', (donation) => {
  console.log(JSON.stringify(donation));
});

watcher.start();

Remember to call watcher.stop() when finished! Otherwise the pings will continue in the background taking up memory.

Browser

<script src="https://unpkg.com/[email protected]/dist/extra-life-donation-watcher.min.js"></script>
<script>
  const watcher = new ExtraLifeDonationWatcher.ExtraLifeDonationWatcher({ participantId: '532356' });
  watcher.on('started', () => {
    console.log('started watching for donations');
  });

  watcher.on('participant-donation', (donation) => {
    console.log(JSON.stringify(donation));
  });

  watcher.start();
</script>

Remember to call watcher.stop() when finished! Otherwise the pings will continue in the background taking up memory.

Remember to donate to help the children!

The extra life charity and the people who stream and run events for it are amazing people and do wonderful things for kids in need!

If you use this module and are feeling generous, please remember to donate to this cause to help the kids in need. Every donation will directly benefit Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
