Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Read-only MCP server for Fairnight: ask Claude or ChatGPT about your nightly prices, occupancy and gaps. Runs on your computer over stdio.

Readme

fairnight-mcp

Ask Claude (or any MCP client) about your Fairnight prices:

  • "How much is the loft over New Year?"
  • "Why is the 9th so cheap?"
  • "Which gaps do I have before Christmas?"

This is a read-only MCP server. It runs on your computer and reads the folder that the fairnight command keeps up to date.

What it can and cannot do

| Tool | What it answers | |---|---| | list_listings | Your listings: name, currency, base price, default minimum stay, channels, when the calendars were last read. | | get_prices(listing, from, to) | Price and minimum stay of each night between two dates. Reserved and blocked nights are marked. For a room type of a small hotel, also how many rooms are free. | | explain_night(listing, date) | Why one night costs what it costs: every factor, with the price before and after. For a room type, the rooms free and the rule that weighed most. | | occupancy(listing, month) | Nights reserved, blocked and free in a month, the occupancy, and the average price still for sale. For a room type, in room-nights. | | next_gaps(listing, days, maxNights) | Short free stretches between two stays: the nights that are hardest to sell. For a room type, between two sold-out nights, with the rooms free. | | get_sync_status | Where each listing's data comes from (iCal calendars, Smoobu or Beds24) and when it was last read, with the latest error if any. | | get_market_area(listing, from, to) | The zone data behind the zone demand factor: source and attribution, when it was read, how long it is kept, whether the occupancy is an estimate, the zone's average and its figures night by night. | | get_guest_deadlines(includeDone) | Guest registration (Fairguest): the communications to the police still due for each stay, with their 24-hour deadline and whether they are late. Only dates and states: guests' details are encrypted, and this server never asks for the passphrase. | | get_guest_replies(includeText) | Replies to guests (Fairhello): the drafts waiting for your approval, what to look at (price, money, complaint, cancellation, emergency), and the outdated ones with their reason. Message texts only with includeText. Approving and sending happen only on your page /risposte or with fairnight risposte invia. |

Nothing writes. Every tool is declared read-only, and the database is opened in SQLite's read-only mode, so it cannot change prices, calendars or bookings. The server never goes on the internet. It never shows your iCal links, because those work like passwords. To change a price, edit fairnight.config.json. To refresh the calendars, run fairnight sync or press Recalculate on the calendar page.

Claude Desktop

  1. Set up a Fairnight folder first (see fairnight-cli), then run fairnight sync in it.
  2. In Claude Desktop open Settings → Developer → Edit Config. Add this to claude_desktop_config.json, with the path of your folder:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fairnight": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "fairnight-mcp", "--dir", "C:\\Users\\you\\my-rentals"]
    }
  }
}

On macOS or Linux the path looks like /Users/you/my-rentals.

Until the package is on npm, run it from a clone of this repository after npm install && npm run build:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fairnight": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["C:\\path\\to\\openstay\\packages\\fairnight-mcp\\bin\\fairnight-mcp.js", "--dir", "C:\\Users\\you\\my-rentals"]
    }
  }
}
  1. Restart Claude Desktop. The eight tools appear under fairnight.

The folder can also be given with the FAIRNIGHT_DIR environment variable instead of --dir.
