Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.0

Published

MCP server for the Flashscribe API - transcribe audio/video and fetch transcripts, timestamps, and subtitles from AI agents.

Readme

flashscribe-mcp

MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for flashscribe.ai - lets AI agents transcribe audio/video and work with transcripts through the Flashscribe API.

Give agents ears: meeting recordings, voice notes, and videos become text an agent can search, summarize, and act on - backed by Flashscribe's 90+ language transcription pipeline.

Tools

| Tool | Description | |---|---| | transcribe_file | Upload a local audio/video file and transcribe it (waits for completion by default, ~1 min per audio-hour) | | get_transcription | Fetch a job by id: status, detected language, and the full transcript once completed | | export_transcript | Convert a completed job to SRT, VTT, TXT, or CSV - generated locally from cue timestamps, optionally written to a file |

Setup

Requires Node.js 18+ and a Flashscribe API key (fs_live_*, from Settings → API keys - paid plans).

git clone https://github.com/qwertymuzaffar/flashscribe-mcp.git
cd flashscribe-mcp
npm install && npm run build

Claude Code

claude mcp add flashscribe -e FLASHSCRIBE_API_KEY=fs_live_... -- node /path/to/flashscribe-mcp/build/index.js

Claude Desktop (or any MCP client)

  "mcpServers": {
    "flashscribe": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["/path/to/flashscribe-mcp/build/index.js"],
      "env": { "FLASHSCRIBE_API_KEY": "fs_live_..." }
    }
  }
}

Example

"Transcribe ~/Recordings/standup.m4a and save subtitles next to it"

The agent calls transcribe_file (uploads, waits, returns the transcript), then export_transcript with format: "srt" and an output_path.

Notes

  • Files upload as a raw request body (the API rejects multipart). Max 10 hours per file.
  • Transcription failures are refunded by the API automatically.
  • SRT/VTT/CSV are derived client-side from the job's cues - no extra API calls.

Development

npm test # builds, then runs unit tests (node --test)
