Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Makes flux + React easy to use and understand

fluxtore

Create Flux stores in an easy way. You wont need the constants and actions dependencies, everything will be isolated in the store.

Install

Fluxtore is available as npm module so you can run npm install fluxtore.

Creating a store

var fluxtore = require('fluxtore');
var todos = [];
var store = fluxtore.createStore({
  getTodos: getTodos
});

function getTodos() {
  return todos;
}

module.exports = store;

once you have your store you can use it in your react Components

var todosStore = require('./todosStore');
var TodoList = require('./todoList');
var todos = React.createClass({
  getInitialState: function() {
    return getTodosState();
  },

  render: function() {
    return (
      <div><TodoList todos={this.state.todos}/></div>
    );
  }
});

function getTodosState() {
  return {
    todos: todosStore.getTodos()
  };
}

Events

What about the events? I want to be notified if there is some chage in the list. You can specify a list of events that your store will emit and of course support subscriptions to.

var fluxtore = require('fluxtore');
var todos = [];
var store = fluxtore.createStore({
  events: ['change'],

  getTodos: getTodos
});

function getTodos() {
  return todos;
}

module.exports = store;

As a magic act your store now will support store.addChangeListener, store.removeChangeListner and store.emitChange. this way you can update your component to properly refresh data.

var todosStore = require('./todosStore');
var TodoList = require('./todoList');
var todos = React.createClass({
  getInitialState: function() {
    return getTodosState();
  },
  componentWillMount: function() {
    todoStore.addChangeListener(this.onTodosChange);
  },

  componentWillUnmount: function() {
    todoStore.removeChangeListener(this.onTodosChange);
  },

  onTodosChange: function() {
    this.setState(getTodosState());
  },

  render: function() {
    return (
      <div><TodoList todos={this.state.todos}/></div>
    );
  }
});

function getTodosState() {
  return {
    todos: todosStore.getTodos()
  };
}

Actions

Don't worry creating actions is pretty simple, just expose them on your store.

var fluxtore = require('fluxtore');
var todos = [];
var idSeed = 0;
var store = fluxtore.createStore({
  events: ['change'],

  getTodos: getTodos,

  actions: {
    addTodo: addTodo
  }
});

function addTodo(text) {
  todos.push({id: ++idSeed, text: text});
  store.emitChange();
}

function getTodos() {
  return todos;
}

module.exports = store;

Yes it's that easy

Calling actions from components

var todosStore = require('./todosStore');
var addTodo = React.createClass({
    getInitialState: function() {
      return {
        text: ''
      };
    },

    render: function() {
      return (
        <div>
          <input name="add" value={this.state.text} onKeyPress={this.keyPressedHandler} onChange={this.textChangeHandler}/>
          <button onClick={this.addButtonClickHandler}>Add</button>
        </div>
      );
    },

    addTodo: function() {
      todoStore.addTodo({text: this.state.text})
      this.setState({text: ''});
    },

    keyPressedHandler: function(e) {
      if (e.which === 13) {
        e.preventDefault();
        this.addTodo();
      }
    },

    textChangeHandler: function(e) {
      this.setState({
        text: e.currentTarget.value
      });
    },

    addButtonClickHandler: function(e) {
      e.preventDefault();
      this.addTodo();
    }
});

function getTodosState() {
  return {
    todos: todoStore.getTodos()
  };
}

Important note that the actions are added on the root of the store, you should not call them from the store.actions.addTodo
