Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

forge-lib-queue

v1.0.0

Published

A queue library for Forge

Readme

Forge Queue Library

A queue library for Forge that supports both in-memory (Toad) and Redis-based (Bull) job scheduling.

Features

  • In-memory job scheduling with Toad Scheduler
  • Redis-based job scheduling with Bull
  • Support for cron jobs
  • Support for delayed jobs
  • Automatic retries with exponential backoff
  • Job completion and failure callbacks

Installation

npm install forge-lib-queue

Usage

Basic Usage

import { ToadScheduler } from "forge-lib-queue";

// Create a scheduler
const scheduler = new ToadScheduler();

// Schedule a job
scheduler.schedule(
  async (data) => {
    console.log("Processing job with data:", data);
    return "Job completed";
  },
  { foo: "bar" }
);

// Handle job completion
scheduler.onCompleted(async (data, result) => {
  console.log("Job completed with result:", result);
});

// Handle job failures
scheduler.onFailed(async (data, error) => {
  console.error("Job failed with error:", error);
});

Using Bull with Redis

import { BullScheduler } from "forge-lib-queue";

// Create a Bull scheduler with Redis connection
const scheduler = new BullScheduler("my-queue", {
  redis: {
    host: "localhost",
    port: 6379,
    password: "optional-password",
  },
});

// Schedule a job with retry
scheduler.schedule(
  async (data) => {
    console.log("Processing job with data:", data);
    return "Job completed";
  },
  { foo: "bar" },
  { retry: 3 }
);

// Schedule a cron job
scheduler.schedule(
  async (data) => {
    console.log("Running cron job");
  },
  { type: "cron" },
  { cron: "*/5 * * * *" } // Run every 5 minutes
);

// Schedule a delayed job
scheduler.schedule(
  async (data) => {
    console.log("Running delayed job");
  },
  { type: "delayed" },
  { delay: 60000 } // Run after 1 minute
);

Testing

The library includes comprehensive tests for both the Toad and Bull implementations.

Running Tests

By default, only the Toad tests will run (no Redis dependency):

npm test

To run the Bull tests (requires Redis):

npm run test:bull

To run all tests:

npm run test:all

Redis Configuration for Tests

To run the Bull tests, you need to have Redis available. You can configure the Redis connection using environment variables:

REDIS_HOST=localhost REDIS_PORT=6379 REDIS_PASSWORD=your-password npm run test:bull

If these environment variables are not set, the Bull tests will be skipped automatically.
