Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Basic Concepts

FormVHtml is built around these core principles:

  1. Simplicity - Use standard HTML elements and attributes when possible
  2. Automatic Structure - Generate proper form layout without extra markup
  3. Convention over Configuration - Reasonable defaults with options to customize
  4. Minimal Learning Curve - If you know HTML forms, you know FormVHtml

FormVHtml automatically generates a <label> element based on the value provided in the label or data-label attribute of your input/select/textarea element.

Form Structure

FormVHtml automatically transforms your form inputs into proper form groups with labels. This:

Input Filtering

FormVHtml allows you to automatically filter user input in real-time for specific fields, ensuring only allowed characters are entered. This is useful for fields like phone numbers, zip codes, or any input where you want to restrict the character set.

How to Use

Add the data-filter attribute to your input or textarea element. The value of this attribute should be the name of a filter function defined in src/utils/filtersRules.js.

The filtering happens on keydown and paste events, preventing invalid characters from being entered and filtering pasted content.

Built-in Filters

The following filters are available by default (defined in src/utils/filtersRules.js):

  • number: Allows only digits (0-9).
  • phone: Allows only digits (0-9). (Note: You might want to customize this in filtersRules.js to allow hyphens or spaces if needed).
  • email: Allows letters (a-zA-Z), numbers (0-9), and the characters ._%+-@.

Adding Custom Filters

You can easily add your own filters by editing the src/utils/filtersRules.js file.

  1. Open src/utils/filtersRules.js.
  2. Add a new key to the filtersRules object. The key is the name you will use in the data-filter attribute.
  3. The value should be a function that accepts the current input value (val as a string) and returns the filtered string.

Example: Adding an uppercaseOnly filter:

Error Placement

You can control where error messages appear:

  • below-input (default) - Shows errors below each input
  • above-input - Shows errors above each input
  • parent - Emits errors to parent component without displaying them

RTL Support

FormVHtml has built-in support for right-to-left languages. Simply use RTL language content for your labels:
