fport-cli
A lightweight, cross-platform CLI tool to instantly find and terminate processes running on specific ports.
Overview
Developer environments frequently encounter stuck ports and address-in-use errors (EADDRINUSE). Manually looking up process IDs via task tables or process lists slows down local development.
fport-cli resolves this problem instantly by letting you specify target ports directly from your command line, automating process identification and termination under the hood.
Installation
Install the package globally via npm to make the command available across any terminal window on your system:
npm install -g fport-cliUsage
Pass any port number as an argument to instantly clear whatever process is occupying it:
fport-cli 3000You can also clear multiple ports simultaneously in a single command invocation:
fport-cli 3000 5000 8080How It Works
- Windows: Automatically queries active sockets via
netstatand terminates target processes securely usingtaskkill. - macOS / Linux: Utilizes system utilities like
lsofandkill -9to free up ports instantly.
