Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

frankjs

v0.0.6

Published

Creates web page reports such as DOM ready time, pageload and page resources

Readme

FRANKJS

FRANKJS is a nodejs script used to create web page reports such as DOM ready time, pageload and page resources.

Installation

Fork me on github or install node package using npm install frankjs

Dependencies: PhantomJS and Jade template engine

Usage

node frankjs google.com

Output: report file named report-default-SETID.html in report-results folder

node frankjs google.com -rt=dump-json,my-custom-template

Output: report files named report-dump-json-SETID.html and report-my-custom-template-SETID.html in report-results folder

SETID = Unique identifier for your set of reports

Config options

Default options are located in default.json in config-files folder, you can override any default option or create your custom config file for a specific report. To load your json config file use -ff=FILENAME option (must be in config-files folder). Any attribute in json config file will be mapped in frankArgs object, just in case you want to add any awesome new functionality.

Custom PhantomJS script

FRANKJS has a default PhantomJS script but you can run any script. Script must be in phantomjs-scripts folder and must return one valid stringified JSON.

Custom report template

Reports are created using Jade template engine and must be in report-templates folder. Each template receives a result JSON so you can iterate in Jade file.

YSlow script and report

FrankJS 0.6 has YSlow PhantomJS script and report package, you can run report using:

node frankjs google.com -rt=yslow -cs=yslow -csp=--dict

Roadmap (TODO)

A few items for future releases, maybe you can help me to develop some of them :)

  • Nice style for default report
  • SEO report (some code for default PhantomJS script and report template)
  • Send reports feature (email and any other shell commands - reports in "files" array)
  • Notification feature (Define max value for properties like DOM ready time, resource sizes, pageload, etc... and notify if higher)
  • Lots of useful reports
