Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

free-pi-cli

v0.2.19

Published

Free, ad-supported distribution of the pi coding agent. Inference paid for by ads.

Readme

free-pi-cli

A preconfigured pi coding agent, free for the user because ads pay for inference. All model calls route through the free-pi proxy — you never handle a model API key.

npx free-pi-cli

First run shows a consent screen (free inference, ads pay for it, sessions may be used to train models), then signs you in with GitHub. Config and the signed-in token live under ~/.free-pi/agent, kept separate from any existing ~/.pi/agent install.

Running it again

Closed the terminal? Just run the same command again — you stay signed in:

npx free-pi-cli

Prefer a shorter command? Install it once, globally, then call it by name:

npm install -g free-pi-cli
free-pi-cli

Note: free-pi-cli is the command — not pi. If you see the built-in agent suggest pi --session … on exit, use npx free-pi-cli instead (each run starts a fresh session).

Development

  • FREEPI_BASE_URL overrides the backend base URL (default https://api.freepi.ai) — point it at a local dev server.
  • bun test runs the test suite against an in-process stub server; no real network or real pi TUI involved.

Layout

| File | Purpose | |---|---| | src/index.ts | bin entry — wires real dependencies, calls run() | | src/run.ts | orchestration: consent → login → token check → launch | | src/consent.ts | consent screen text/parsing | | src/auth-flow.ts | GitHub device flow client (/auth/github/device, /auth/consent, /auth/token), /me token check | | src/credentials.ts | JWT file storage (mode 0600) under the free-pi config dir | | src/provider.ts | pure builder for the pi.registerProvider config | | src/pi-launch.ts | the actual pi SDK integration (registers the provider, launches the TUI) | | src/paths.ts | free-pi-namespaced config dir, isolated from ~/.pi/agent |
