Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Make, test and pack Gameverse game cartridges (.cart): the cart command-line tool

Readme

gameverse

The cart command for making games for Gameverse: play cartridges (.cart files) safely in the browser.

Needs Node.js 20 or newer.

npx gameverse new my-game start a game from the starter template
cd my-game
npx gameverse dev play it in your browser, reloading each time you save a file (--touch shows the phone controls)
npx gameverse check look for mistakes and warnings (--strict makes warnings fail)
npx gameverse run play a CartScript game with no browser (scripted input)
npx gameverse pack build my-game.cart
npx gameverse inspect game.cart list a cartridge's manifest and files
npx gameverse unpack game.cart extract a cartridge

Install it once with npm install -g gameverse and the command is just cart (for example cart dev).

It runs the same CartScript language as the website, up to language version 8: 8-, 16- and 24-bit color (config { colors: 256 }, 65536, 16777216), named palettes (config { palette: "gameboy" }) custom palettes with set_palette() and bigger fonts: pixel fonts with lowercase letters (font("classic"), "bold", "italic" and "bold-italic") and hi-res fonts that look the same on every device (font("vector"), "vector-bold" and "vector-italic") Six more pixel fonts are converted from open typefaces ("pixelify", "silkscreen", "arcade", "tiny5", "vt323" and "dotgothic"); they are under the SIL Open Font License, and their notices and license are in licenses/fonts.txt.. Games play on phones and tablets too, with an on-screen D-pad and buttons: cart dev --touch shows how yours feels with them. A game that uses one of them says so in its manifest.json ("cartscript": 3 to 8); cart check tells you which number it needs.
