Installation

Option 1: Global Installation (Recommended) - Auto PATH Setup

npm install -g geminisearch-cli
geminisearch

The installation now automatically sets up your PATH!

After installation, you'll see a message like:

GeminiSearch CLI - Setting up PATH...
npm global bin: /Users/yourname/.npm-global/bin
SUCCESS: Added to /Users/yourname/.zshrc
SUCCESS: PATH setup completed!
Please restart your terminal or run: source ~/.zshrc

Just restart your terminal and run:

geminisearch

Option 2: Direct Run (No Installation - No PATH Setup Needed)

npx geminisearch-cli

Option 3: Local Installation

npm install geminisearch-cli
npx geminisearch-cli

Getting Started

Prerequisites

You need a Google Gemini API key from Google AI Studio.

Usage

1. Run the CLI:

   geminisearch

2. Enter your API key when prompted (or set GOOGLE_GENAI_API_KEY environment variable)

3. Select your preferred Gemini model:

   • Gemini 2.5 Flash (Recommended)
   • Gemini 2.5 Pro
   • Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite
   • Gemini 2.0 Flash
   • Gemini 1.5 Pro
   • Gemini 1.5 Flash

4. Start asking questions

Environment Variable Setup (Optional)

You can skip the API key prompt by setting the environment variable:

export GOOGLE_GENAI_API_KEY=your-gemini-api-key

Or create a .env file in your project:

GOOGLE_GENAI_API_KEY=your-gemini-api-key

Example Usage

$ geminisearch

Troubleshooting

"Command Not Found" Error

If you get command not found: geminisearch after global installation:

1. Quick Fix - Use npx (recommended):

   npx geminisearch-cli

2. Permanent Fix - Update PATH:

   # Check your npm global bin directory
   npm config get prefix
   
   # Add it to your shell profile (one-time setup)
   echo 'export PATH="$PATH:$(npm config get prefix)/bin"' >> ~/.zshrc  # macOS
   echo 'export PATH="$PATH:$(npm config get prefix)/bin"' >> ~/.bashrc  # Linux
   
   # Restart terminal or run:
   source ~/.zshrc  # or source ~/.bashrc

3. Verify Installation:

   npm list -g geminisearch-cli

Other Issues

• Node.js Version: Ensure you have Node.js 14.0.0 or higher
• Permission Error: Try sudo npm install -g geminisearch-cli (last resort)
• Network Issues: Check your internet connection and npm registry
