Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Cross-platform npm launcher for Dalo

Readme

getdalo

getdalo is a small Node.js launcher for Dalo, the Git-backed skill manager for AI agents. It downloads the matching official Dalo release on first use, verifies its SHA-256 checksum, caches it locally, and forwards every argument to the binary.

Use it

Run Dalo without a global installation:

npx getdalo --version
npx getdalo init

Or install the launcher globally:

npm install --global getdalo
dalo --help

Requirements

  • Node.js 20 or newer
  • macOS or Linux on x86_64 or ARM64
  • tar on PATH to unpack the official release archive

The first invocation of a getdalo package version needs network access to GitHub Releases. Later invocations use that version's cached binary without a GitHub API call. Each launcher version defaults to its matching Dalo release, so runs are reproducible and a warm cache works offline.

Configuration

| Variable | Purpose | | --- | --- | | DALO_VERSION | Override the package version with 0.7.0, v0.7.0, or dalo-v0.7.0. Use latest for an explicit GitHub update lookup; if that lookup fails, the newest usable cached version is used with a warning. | | DALO_CACHE_DIR | Override the executable cache location (default: ~/.cache/dalo). | | DALO_LINUX_LIBC | Override Linux libc detection with gnu or musl. |

To force a fresh download, remove the selected version from ~/.cache/dalo or set DALO_CACHE_DIR to an empty directory.

Release metadata and archive downloads time out after 30 seconds. Network errors include their underlying cause and a hint for selecting an exact version.

Security

The launcher downloads the archive and its .sha256 file from the matching GitHub Release, verifies the checksum, then installs the cached executable with owner-only cache permissions. For Sigstore provenance verification or a non-Node installation, use the official installer.

For Dalo documentation, agent setup, and uninstall guidance, see dalo.sh and the project repository.
