Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Auto-generate meaningful and conventional commit messages using AI!

This CLI tool uses the power of Google Gemini AI to generate commit messages based on your latest staged changes. It's designed for developers who want clean, descriptive, and standardized commit messages without the hassle.

📦 Installation

npm install -g gitcommitgen

🛠️ Usage

  1. In your Git project, stage your changes:

    git add .
  2. Then simply run:

    gitcommitgen
  3. The tool will:

    • Collect the git diff of staged changes
    • Send it to Google Gemini API
    • Print a commit message in the conventional commit format
  4. Copy the generated message or use it directly as needed:

    git commit -m "✨ Generated commit message"

🔐 Environment Variables

To use the Gemini API, create a .env file in your project root with:

GEMINI_API_KEY=your_google_gemini_api_key

You can alias it to make it even quicker:
