Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

greek-phonology

Ancient Greek pronunciation tools: Greek text to IPA under four schemes (Modern, Koine, restored Attic, Erasmian), a guess at which scheme a speaker used from their IPA, syllables, accents, and an NT + LXX word list. Built with MoonBit; no dependencies. Playground · Source

npm install greek-phonology
import { ipa, g2p, phoneDistance, schemeId, detect, call, loadLexicon } from "greek-phonology";
ipa("ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος", "koine");          // "ɛ n | a r kʰ e | e n | o | l o ɣ o s"
g2p("αι", "modern"); // units that tile the typed word
phoneDistance("ð", "d", "koine", "gracious"); // tier, note, and advice
schemeId("attic-reconstructed");              // "attic"
detect("e n | a r x i", "ἐν ἀρχῇ").probs;    // { modern: …, koine: …, attic: …, erasmian: … }
call("accentuate_verb", "λυομεν");            // "λύομεν"
loadLexicon(); // optional: enables lookup() and accent restoration

Schemes: "modern", "koine", "attic", "erasmian". Phones are separated by spaces, words by |. g2p(text, scheme, flags) is the same reading split into grapheme units. alts and ctx are optional flags and default off; neither changes ipa(). Koine word-final αυ/ευ/ηυ is [v]. phoneDistance, phoneCredit, hearingCredit, unitHearingCredit, and distTable score a heard phone against a target. The learner goal (strict, gracious, lenient) changes acceptance and credit only. gracious is the default. creditLevel maps a combined credit to a display level (cutoffs 8, 30, 60, 85, and 95 percent). schemeId turns a long scheme id into modern, koine, attic, or erasmian. alignPhonesJson aligns a recognizer posterior to target phones (restarts, skips, repeats, stray sounds) and does not affect ipa(). The detector uses no audio data: a simple prior over recognizer confusions plus phone-bigram tables from SBLGNT and Rahlfs LXX word counts. greek-phonology.wasm (byte-buffer ABI, see the repo's docs/app.js) is included for browsers and other hosts.

Word list: SBL Greek New Testament (CC BY 4.0) and Rahlfs 1935 LXX forms. Code: MIT.
