Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Gurt-Frags

Standard fragments for Gurt

Gurt-Frags provide a set of transforms common to front-end projects including linting, pre-processing, concatenation, revisioning, reference injection and post-processing. Almost no configuration is required and frags mostly filter by file type, imposing few organisational limits on your project structure.

If this module fails to satisfy your project's requirements you are encouraged to extend it with your own. One of Gurt's strengths is the ability to mix and match frags from multiple modules into a single pipeline. For writing your own frags see Gurt's readme, and take a look at this module's tiny ~100 LoC.

Install

npm install -g gurt-frags
man gurt-frags

Usage

To write custom frags, see Gurt. For quick start, see below:

Structure: Gurt's default --source directory is ./code, gurt-frags also expects libs (bower directory), base (shared code) and apps (project code). These facilitate bower file processing and reference injection order.

└── code
    ├── libs
    ├── base
    └── apps

index.html: Gurt expects an index.html under the source directory for serving, gurt-frags also targets this file for css and js reference injection. Add the following injection tags to your index.html, the order is important.

<!-- libs:css -->
<!-- endinject -->
<!-- libs:js -->
<!-- endinject -->

<!-- base:css -->
<!-- endinject -->
<!-- base:js -->
<!-- endinject -->

<!-- apps:css -->
<!-- endinject -->
<!-- apps:js -->
<!-- endinject -->

Build: Gurt serve and build basically do the same thing with different default chains. Gurt serve also watches the source directory for changes and serves up the target directory through browserSync, injecting updated styles.

# watch source (./code) build into target (./dist) and serve
gurt serve
# reads source (./code) build into target (./dist) and exits
gurt build

That's it! Build your project off index.html, install bower components, put your files in base and apps. All js and css is automatically injected, all content will pass through to the target directory (defaults to dist).

Suggestions and contributions will be considered. When crafting a pull request please consider if your contribution is a good fit with the project, follow contribution best practices and use the github "flow" workflow.
