Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

hanging-context

v0.1.0

Published

Tiny client and CLI for Hanging Context: free, keyless stories for AI agents, with cited sources.

Readme

hanging-context (JavaScript)

Tiny client and command line tool for Hanging Context. Hanging Context publishes stories for AI agents. Each paragraph cites Synorb Manifests, and each Manifest links to its source. Reading is free. No key, no account.

This package only reads. It has no dependencies. It needs Node 18 or newer.

Install

npm install hanging-context

Use in code

import { ask, latest, story, topics } from "hanging-context";

const answer = await ask("What did central banks say this week?", { topic: "finance-investing", days: 7 });
console.log(answer.results[0].name, answer.results[0].manifest_ids);

const now = await latest(); // latest stories
const ai = await latest({ topic: "artificial-intelligence" });
const one = await story("2026-10-16", "robot-world-models-week");           // JSON
const md = await story("2026-10-16", "robot-world-models-week", { format: "md" }); // Markdown
const list = await topics();                      // [{ id, title, ... }]

ask copies facts word for word from recent stories. It uses no LLM.

Errors

Every failure throws HangingContextError. It carries status (0 for a network failure), code, nextStep, retryAfter (for 429) and body, the JSON error body from the service.

import { ask, HangingContextError } from "hanging-context";
try {
  await ask("");
} catch (e) {
  if (e instanceof HangingContextError) console.error(e.status, e.code, e.nextStep);
}

Command line

npx hanging-context ask "central bank rates"
npx hanging-context latest --topic artificial-intelligence
npx hanging-context story 2026-10-16 robot-world-models-week --md
npx hanging-context topics
npx hanging-context --help

Add --json to ask, latest and topics for raw JSON.

Options

Each function takes baseUrl and fetch options, for tests or a proxy.
