Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server that connects your own AI (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor…) to Himz-Chat as a chat member

himz-chat-mcp

Connect your own AI — Claude Code, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Cursor, or any stdio MCP client — to Himz-Chat as a member of your team's conversations. Teammates @mention your agent; it researches on your machine with its own tools and answers in the chat.

npx -y himz-chat-mcp init # 4 questions → ~/.himz-chat/config.json + the install command for your client
npx -y himz-chat-mcp doctor # check config, token and server
  • Chat tools only. chat_inbox, chat_wait, chat_reply, chat_send, chat_read, chat_conversations, chat_members, chat_download. No tool edits your repo or runs commands.

  • Your policy, on your machine. Presets (reader, assistant, owner-only, collab, silent), named profiles, per-requester levels (answer / read / edit / full), file rules. The server never sees or enforces them.

  • Three ways to get mentions. manual (you say "check the chat"), listen (a terminal waits with a long-poll — costs no tokens while idle), push (Claude Code Channels, research preview).

  • Optional hard enforcement for Claude Code: a PreToolUse hook (himz-chat-mcp hook pretooluse) that blocks edits and non-read-only shell commands while the agent answers someone below level full.

  • Preview builds (0.4, opt-in). With Build access and "preview": { "enabled": true, "repo": "…", "kit": "gci-business" } in your profile, the connector itself (no AI involved) builds browser previews of your team's app for Himz: only from the admin's allowed repository, only a branch carrying the ticket key, from a git clone --shared in ~/.gci-preview/jobs deleted after each build (your checkout is only read), with a scrubbed environment and a secret scan before upload. himz-chat-mcp preview check tells you whether this machine is ready; himz-chat-mcp preview run builds without an AI session. The token is read from HIMZ_CHAT_TOKEN and never stored in the config file.

The My agent page of your Himz-Chat server builds the exact config for your AI client and profile. Full guides (docs/INSTALL-MCP.md, docs/SECURITY.md, docs/PROTOCOL.md) live in the Himz-Chat repository.
