Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Homestar Ipsum Generator

Building a website for a multi-million dollar client, and with five minutes to spare, you realized you forgot to add WORDS? Standing in front of your soon-to-be bride, and it hits you that your vows are CRAP? Maybe you've been procrastinating for weeks on that NOT SO WELL-THOUGHT OUT ENGLILSH PAPER? Or maybe you just really want to sound more like your hero, SENOR CARDGAGE?

Well, look no further. Brought to you by the people who did not make Duck Pond, the bespoke Homestar Ipsum Generator ensures none of these very real and totally plausible situations will ever catch you off guard again.

Or our money back.

How to Use

  1. Crack open a cold one

  2. Boot up your Lappy

  3. Open up your stupid project

  4. Run:

     npm install homestar-ipsum
  5. Go to see your smelly neighbor Package Dot Jason and throw the scripts in his smelly face:

     "hr-gensen": "node node_modules/homestar-ipsum/generateSentence",

     "hr-genpar": "node node_modules/homestar-ipsum/generateParagraphs"
  6. To generate a single sentence, type (preferably with boxing gloves) the following in your Terminal:

     npm run hr-gensen
  7. If you want a few paragraphs that will make the ladies squeal, clack away, and make sure to replace that hashity-tag with a number:

     npm run hr-genpar #
  8. Enjoy your cold one, and the glory that is the Homest...wait. Why in the crap was it named after HIM?

Don't want to install my package?

How. Dare. You.

No, in all seriousness, you can just go to the live version here: https://homestar-ipsum.vercel.app/

About the developer

I'm no one special. I just like Homestar Runner (I mean, I have a Li'l Brudder tattoo on my leg), and I thought it'd be fun to make a Homestar Ipsum generator. You can check out my portfolio here: https://davidmarshall.dev. If you like what I've done here, it'd be cool to throw me a cold or something? No pressure. VENMO: @tipperbeanfad. My avatar is a picture of Bender from Futurama.

FAQ

When are you going to add more emails to the transcript file?

Great question. I'm currently working two jobs, because the economy sucks right now, but I'm hoping to add a few more here and there. I'll keep the status updated below.
