Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

htmlto-link-md-skill

One command to install the HTML To Link Markdown publish skill into your AI coding agent — no prompt copy-paste, no interactive setup.

HTML To Link turns a Markdown document into a public share URL with a rendered page. This package installs the html-to-link-md Agent Skill so tools like OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other SKILL.md-compatible agents can publish for you.

npm: htmlto-link-md-skill
Skill guide: https://htmlto.link/skill
Markdown skill (always latest): https://htmlto.link/downloads/html-to-link-md-skill.md

Want the HTML project deploy skill instead? Use htmlto-link-skill.

Quick start

npx htmlto-link-md-skill

Then tell your agent:

Publish README.md to htmlto.link

That is enough for anonymous temporary publishing (about 24 hours).

What it does

When you run npx htmlto-link-md-skill, the CLI:

  1. Downloads the latest Markdown skill definition from https://htmlto.link/downloads/html-to-link-md-skill.md (always up to date; no skill body is bundled in the npm package).
  2. Reads the skill name from frontmatter (html-to-link-md).
  3. Writes SKILL.md into the common agent skill directories under your project:

| Path | Used by | |------|---------| | .opencode/skills/html-to-link-md/SKILL.md | OpenCode | | .claude/skills/html-to-link-md/SKILL.md | Claude Code | | .agents/skills/html-to-link-md/SKILL.md | Codex, Trae, and other agent-compatible tools |

No prompts. No account required to install.

Options

npx htmlto-link-md-skill [options]

| Option | Description | Default | |--------|-------------|---------| | --md, --markdown | Install the Markdown publish skill (html-to-link-md) | Installed by default | | --html, --deploy | Install the HTML project deploy skill (html-to-link-deploy) | — | | --dir=<path> | Project root to install into | Current working directory | | --targets=<list> | Comma-separated targets: opencode, claude, agents | All three | | -q, --quiet | Print errors only | Off | | -v, --version | Print CLI version | — | | -h, --help | Show help | — |

Examples

# Install the Markdown publish skill (all agent targets)
npx htmlto-link-md-skill

# Only OpenCode + Claude Code
npx htmlto-link-md-skill --targets=opencode,claude

# Install into another docs folder
npx htmlto-link-md-skill --dir=./my-docs

How publishing works (after install)

Your agent follows the installed skill:

  1. Optionally reads HTML_TO_LINK_TOKEN from the environment.
  2. Reads the Markdown file (or raw markdown) and extracts a title from the first heading.
  3. Calls POST https://htmlto.link/api/shares with the markdown content.
  4. Saves shareUrl / slug / updateToken to .htmltolink.json so re-publishing updates the same URL.
  5. Returns only the public shareUrl to you.

Tip: templateId is optional. When omitted, the page uses the clean plain template by default. You can pass other templates (e.g. memo, popart, terminal) by asking your agent to include one.

Anonymous mode (not logged in)

No token required.

| Action | Behavior | |--------|----------| | First publish | Creates a temporary public page (about 24 hours) | | Later publishes | Reuses the same URL when .htmltolink.json has both shareUrl and updateToken | | Lifetime | Each successful update resets the 24-hour window from that publish |

Security notes:

  • Add .htmltolink.json to .gitignore.
  • Never commit or paste updateToken into chat / PRs.
  • The agent should show you only shareUrl.

Account mode (logged in)

For long-lived pages you can manage in the dashboard:

  1. Open https://htmlto.link/skill and sign in.
  2. Copy your API token.
  3. Set the environment variable before asking the agent to publish:
# macOS / Linux
export HTML_TO_LINK_TOKEN="your-token"

# Windows PowerShell
$env:HTML_TO_LINK_TOKEN="your-token"

Requirements

  • Node.js 16+ (for npx / the installer CLI)
  • Network access to https://htmlto.link (installer downloads the skill; the agent calls the publish API)
  • A Markdown file to publish

Zero runtime dependencies

The installer is a small Node CLI with no npm dependencies. It only uses Node built-ins (https, fs, path).
