Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

_hyperherald

declarative server-push hypermedia for the web

_hyperherald is designed to compose with htmx and _hyperscript, covering a domain neither owns: server-push hypermedia. It draws from the Big Sky tradition of small, composable hypermedia tools, in the same spirit, with no formal affiliation.

| Project | Domain | |---|---| | htmx | request/response hypermedia | | _hyperscript | client-side behavior | | _hyperherald | server-push hypermedia |

It defines a small wire protocol and a small JavaScript client that lets the server push HTML fragments to the browser, without forcing you to duplicate state on the client. HTML is state. Server is source of truth. Client is projection.

See PRINCIPLES.md for the constitutional design rules of the project.

Status

0.0.1-alpha0 — bootstrap. Spec and client are under active development. Not for production use.

Quickstart

<script src="https://unpkg.com/hyperherald.org/dist/_hyperherald.min.js"></script>

<div _herald="/events" _herald-subscribe="orders/123">
    <!-- server pushes fragments scoped to channel "orders/123" -->
</div>

ESM:

import _hyperherald from 'hyperherald.org';

Note: the package is not yet on npm. Until first publish, install from this repo or vendor dist/_hyperherald.min.js directly.

Why

Real-time hypermedia in htmx today (SSE/WS extensions) is bolt-on. There is no native model for:

  • Declarative subscription to topics
  • Replay-with-cursor on reconnect (over WebSocket)
  • Multi-element fan-out from a single server message
  • Coalesce / throttle by key
  • Backpressure
  • Multiplexed channels in one connection
  • Out-of-order rendering / suspense
  • Atomic batch swaps

_hyperherald is a separate, server-agnostic project that adds these primitives without changing htmx core.

Non-goals

  • No client-side signals or reactive state
  • No template engine on the client
  • No reconnect logic exposed in user code
  • No coupling to a server framework (Node ref impl is example only; spec is the contract)

Contributing

_hyperherald aims to be small, correct, and predictable. Bug reports and PRs welcome via GitHub issues. See CONTRIBUTING.md.
