Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

iiif-layout-functions

Iiif-layout-functions takes a set of IIIF Presentation Canvases and calculates a number of useful layouts for displaying them in a normalised coordinate system. Layouts are contingent upon parameters such as the viewing-hint, viewing-direction, and other UX considerations. The normalised x,y, width, and height coordinates can be consumed by any rendering context, providing separation of concerns for representing IIIF canvases to the end user. There are no events, DOM elements, or other runtime APIs foisted on the user for interacting with canvases. A list of canvases goes in, and raw numbers come out.

Getting Started

To run the example locally, clone this repository and run
npm install
webpack
webpack-dev-server --content-base example/

Then visit localhost:8080 in the browser, and you should see some useful examples of how these layouts can be rendered in a variety of contexts.

Multiple Renderings

This library is agnostic to any rendering environment, but is intended to provide the hard math required to drive multiple renderings, of the developer's own design, simultaneously. Here are some conceptual guidelines for some of the most likely rendering solutions.

OpenSeadragon

The coordinates provided by this library are normalised to the "home" dimensions of a viewport element. The dimensions of the viewport are passed in as integers, and then used as a base for all the derivative layouts. For OpenSeadragon this means that these layout values for x, y, width, and height of canvases are intended to equate to "world coordinates" (as opposed to viewport, window, or image coordinates).
