Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Readme

install-hypercore-onwrite-hook

Install a write hook onto a Hypercore instance.

Installation

$ npm install install-hypercore-onwrite-hook --save

Usage

// Install `hook(index, data, peer, done)` onto the hypercore instance
install(core, hook, (err) => {
})

// Uninstall `hook(index, data, peer, done)` from the hypercore instance
uninstall(core, hook, (err) => {
})

Example

const { install } = require('install-hypercore-onwrite-hook')
const replicate = require('hypercore-replicate')
const hypercore = require('hypercore')
const xsalsa20 = require('xsalsa20-encoding')
const crypto = require('crypto')
const ram = require('random-access-memory')

const key = crypto.randomBytes(32)
const nonce = crypto.randomBytes(24)
const origin = hypercore(ram, { valueEncoding: xsalsa20(nonce, key) })

function hook(index, data, peer, done) {
  const feed = this
  if (peer && data) {
    // We use the feed's public key as a nonce if one is not given
    const xor = xsalsa20(nonce, key)
    xor.encode(data, data)
  }
  return done(null)
}

origin.ready(() => {
  // edge feed without encryption key to replicate to reader
  const edge = hypercore(ram, origin.key)
  // reader feed with xsalsa20 hook installed after edge replication
  // to decrypt data before writing to storage
  const reader = hypercore(ram, origin.key)

  origin.append(Buffer.from('hello'), () => {
    origin.head((err, head) => {
      console.log('origin: %s', head) // should be plaintext (hello)
    })
  })

  replicate(origin, edge, () => {
    edge.head((err, head) => {
      console.log(' edge: %s', head) // should be ciphertext (garbage)
    })

    // install the hook
    install(reader, hook, () => {
      // replicate edge into reader after hoook is installed
      replicate(edge, reader, () => {
        reader.head((err, head) => {
          console.log('reader: %s', head) // should be plaintext (hello)
        })
      })
    })
  })
})

API

`install(core, hook[, oninstall])

Installs a Hypercore write hook function hook(index, data, peer, done) on to the Hypercore instance core calling oninstall(err) if given with an optional error, if one occurred.

function xor(index, data, peer, done) {
  const feed = this
  if (peer && data) {
    const xor = xsalsa20(nonce, key)
    xor.encode(data, data)
  }
  return done(null)
}

install(core, xor, (err) => {
  // handle error
})

`uninstall(core[, hook[, onuninstall]])

Uninstalls a Hypercore write hook function hook(index, data, peer, done) from a given Hypercore instance core calling onuninstall(err) if given with an optional error, if one occurred.

uninstall(core, hook, (err) => {
  // handle error
})
