Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Ionic 4 Long Press

Say you need to increment something quickly while pushing a button. Or something. This directive intends to build upon the existing Hammer.JS press event that Ionic uses for long pressing, by giving you interval emission.

Compatibility

This plugin should be compatible with Ionic and Angular 7+. It was tested with Ionic 4.6.0 and Angular 7.2.2.

Installation

npm install --save ionic4-long-press

Include HammerJs in your Ionic project

step 1:

npm install --save hammerjs @types/hammerjs

step 2:

import HammerJs in src/main.ts. i.e import 'hammerjs'; // HAMMER TIME

step 3:

Create an IonicGestureConfig.ts file in your utils folder and include this:

import {Injectable} from '@angular/core';
import {HammerGestureConfig} from '@angular/platform-browser';

/**
 * @hidden
 * This class overrides the default Angular gesture config.
 */
@Injectable()
export class IonicGestureConfig extends HammerGestureConfig {
    buildHammer(element: HTMLElement) {
        const mc = new (<any> window).Hammer(element);

        for (const eventName in this.overrides) {
            if (eventName) {
                mc.get(eventName).set(this.overrides[eventName]);
            }
        }

        return mc;
    }

}

step 4: In your app.module.ts import {IonicGestureConfig} from "../utils/IonicGestureConfig"; and add to provider:

@NgModule({
  imports: [
    ...
  ],
  declarations: [
    ...,
  ],
  providers: [{provide: HAMMER_GESTURE_CONFIG, useClass: IonicGestureConfig}],
})
export class MyModule {
}

Usage

The directive should work on any HTML element.

Import the module:

import { LongPressModule } from 'ionic4-long-press';

@NgModule({
    imports: [
        ...
        LongPressModule
        ...
    ]
})

And use in your template:

<button ion-button ion-long-press [interval]="400" (pressed)="pressed()" (longPressed)="active()" (pressEnded)="released()"></button>

API

| Item | Description | |------| ---------- | ion-long-press | Directive to include the press event outputs. [interval] | Number. Allows you to set the interval at which the longPressed event will fire. Default 500. (pressed) | Event fired when the element is initially pressed. (longPressed) | Event fired on the specified interval when the element is being held. (pressEnded) | Event fired when the element is released.

Caveats

I have instated a 40ms interval limit to prevent poor performance. I recommend a longer interval for heavy computations. If you need this limit lowered, please open an issue explaining your use case.

This plugin was originally developed by Wilson Hobbs in July 2017 and updated for Ionic 4 by Robin Giel in September 2019.
